I think your last two sentences contradict your first one. If they were scared that it wouldn't be received well, they would bring it out early to give themselves time to respond to consumer reaction, like you said. If they're not revealing it, that would imply that they are very confident that it will be received well, and they want to capitalize on the momentum the reveal will give by releasing a few months later.
