Forums - Gaming - Gamers Still Prefer Physical Discs Over Digital, According to Findings

Physical will always be better than digital, period. Think of it this way. Sony closes their PS3 store and your PS3 with your digital games takes a shit because, lets face it, discs and cartridges will last a lot longer than a console when cared for properly.

So then you buy a refurbished model from a 3rd party and you are good to go without losing any of your hard earned game collection...IF you bought physical games. If you went digital however, too bad so sad you just lost everything.

Back up to an external HDD? Good idea! Oh wait, your new refurbished console will reformat it and wipe it clean.

Seriously digital is horrible for anyone that actually cares about their investments long term.

Or scenario b. Your house catches on fire, you're home is burglarized, or you just vet careless and step on your disc. Collection gone.

Seriously, physical is just horrible for anyone that actually cares about their investments.

The only true way to keep your collection is to store it in a bomb shelter.

Hmm, houses really aren't that fragile, nor do thieves care about your game collection if you even have the pleasure to get burglarized.
HDDs will most certainly fail, servers do get turned off, digital games do disappear due to for example license issues.

I still have cds I still play and movies from the 90's that work perfectly fine. Any mp3s and mods I had, long lost in HDD crashes. Savegames I had uploaded to websites, website gone :/ We'll see in 20 years how ps3/360 digital games are doing.

But I can't deny the convenience, changing disks with psvr headset on is asking for trouble...

Seeing how I am speaking about when the servers for the digital purchases inevitably close for the next service, you are screwed both ways if your house gets burglarized or catches fire.  However both of these scenarios are extreme circumstances and seeing how far you had to reach just proves my point.

If you are leaving your CDs around where they can be stepped on, you are not caring for them properly.  So this is a pointless argument.  It would be like keeping your PS4 in a closed box with no room to breath let alone ventilate and then using that as an example for console failure.  It is illogical.

However servers do close.  PSP servers are gone, DSi gone, Wii shop gone, and PS360 will be next.  When that happens and the HDD fails due to a short lifespan, your collection is gone.  If a disc or cartridge goes for whatever reason, I only have to replace that one game.

I will take reliability and longevity over convenience anyday.  It does not take long to change the disk or cartridge.

Did they poll those people at physical game stores?

was thinking that with the picture in the OP, ask people at the counter of McDonalds if they rather burger king too... would get similar results as this poll.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

For PC gamer it's the other way around, but Digital Console games prizes actually expensive compared to physical.

As long as digital sticks to your account, I prefer it. Fiddling with discs is silly in 2016.

I don't buy new games digital... Well, when they're available in retail. They're generally more expensive when they should be the opposite. I'll change when this continues apart from games I'll know I'll enjoy the hell out of and will want to keep the physical copy just... well... just cos.

Physical master race!

To each, his own.

My game room looks like a Gamestop. I couldn't even keep them all on shelves and had to start putting games in crates. True, I still have my ps1 games and memory cards from 1996 but I've made the switch. I've been doing it "your way" for decades but there's no going back for me now. Like with music and movies, I'm pro digital. There's just too many benefits. I even buy digital comic books, nowadays!

I guess I'm not a serious collector anymore. :(

I personally get a good feeling when I see my physical collection of games.
