Forums - Nintendo - Let's talk about Super Mario 3D Land and Super Mario 3D World...

Both are great games. Certainly among the best Nintendo games of the current generation.

If I have to choose a favorite, I'm gonna say Land. I don't have any real case to make for it, but I remember that I thought it was really something special.

3d World certainly gets more challenging than most Mario games, including some retro Mario game such as Super Mario World.

SM3dL was too easy at first, but then became a nice challenge on the special worlds and I loved it. It did steal a lot of sm3dw's thunder for me though.
Sm3dw's really earn't it's place amongst the top of the Wii U's games because of its local multiplayer, which keeps me coming back. Then again I could certainly justify another solo run through when I have time.

Still not my favourite 3d Mario (That goes to Mario 64) or my favourite Wii U Mario (That goes to Mario Maker) but a great game, packed with great ideas and some lovely details... And for me, controversially, better than, and an evolution of, the galaxy games.

Have only tried 3D World a little bit, not enough to judge it.
I have played 3D Land and completed it 100%. It's a good game with fun gameplay. However it suffers from some of the same problems the New Super Mario Bros games have. Plains levels check, desert levels check, ghost house levels check, Bowser castle levels check. While not always adding a lot of creatively. It does alright though, most levels are still really good. My biggest complaints however are the low difficulty (way way too easy). And the way the game adds post game content. The extra worlds a mostly just variations on the main world levels. And then you have to collect all the star coins, and grab the top of the flag pole in each level. Is that enough though? No you have to do all that again as Luigi. Haha, fuck you completionists :D And then you unlock the final level, which is a very challenging level and quite awesome actually, too bad you have to go through all that shit to get to it

Overall it's a great game, but not on level with 64 and Galaxy 1 and 2. And not among the very best 3DS games in my opinion. 8/10

3DWorld and 3DLand are about 10 times more fun to play than Mario 64 when you get ride of nostalgia, yet somehow they are not great mario games for some people.

But they are.

You reminded me that I still need to complete 3D World. Got to about halfway the final world acouple years ago, but never played the last couple of levels for some reason.

I did finally got around to finishing Captain Toad though.

I prefer Land to World. I don't like consoles much

3D world was a great game for Wii U, it's a shame it will mainly be remembered for not being a super mario sequence. It's a 2.5D Mario game and not a 3d one like the galaxies. Ironically Super Mario 3dworld should be called New super mario bros, since it took most elements of the bros series and put them into a new perspective. I would have liked to see a (real) traditional 3d mario alongside this title.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

I've only played 3D Land, and loved it, and only got a Wii U some weeks back so I haven't gotten around to 3D World - but I'm looking forward to it!

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

3DWorld is and improved 3DLand. Both of them are great games, but I was more impressed with 3DWorld. Level design is astonishing, levels are truly varied and fun. I sometimes find hard to believe that anyone thinks it's worse than Sunshine, but tastes are varied xD. I think 3DWorld is a masterpiece, and near Galaxy and 64 level of quality. It only lacks, maybe, more ambition. But it's solid and polished as hell.

I like them, but they are last and second to last of my favorite 3D Mario games.
