You've not given any realistic answer as to how Sony and Ninty will convince people to buy a very large, very expensive mobile device in the very large quantity you mentioned.

I absolutly have. 20 Million is nothing. PS4 is doing 20 million this year, Wii did it multiple times, PS2, and DS as well.

A NX and PS4 phone would offer GTA5, COD, Gran Turismo, Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, and many more on the go. Kids escpecially having the ability to Play COD against their friends at lunch or on the bus, would be a huge early driver to the success. Kids don't care about banking, trading, health and fitness. Kids care about gamings and social connection. They alone would drive sales of these levels for each platform.

I don't get where the idea that it would be large and very expensive comes from either. These devices could easily sell for $400 at launch and absolutly destory iPhone or Androids in power, all while being no bigger than the iPhone 7+ or the Galaxy Note phones. Smartphones are the biggest price gouging devices on the market.

I actually kind of hope they do it now so you'll see how bad this would turn out.

The landscape was totally different. People aren't going to get rid of their daily drivers to buy expensive phones to play games on when they're happy playing smartphone-like games on smartphone. Nintendo and Sony would make way more money just making smartphone games and putting them on the playstore and apple store.

Still don't get it. What about iPhone 7 wireless ear buds?

I absolutly hope they wil so we can have options in mobile, and so I can come back and say I told you all so.

Sony and Nintendo will never make long term money on mobile. A Gran Turismo, a Mario, a God of War, would all be flash in the pan successes with very short life spans. The slab phones can not offer an experience that people will stick with and support. It is just, oh, cool, Kratos on iPhone, and then it's done and over.

Again, no 1.5 billion people are not going to give up their phone for this. 30 million people between them in year one, yes. 200 million people between them aafter 5 years, absolulty. These would not be expensive phones to play games. They would be $400 handheld/phone hybrids, that would outperform iPhone and Android devices.

Seroiusly, with the logic I am seeing here, consoles should stop being manufactured immedietly, because people already have PC's and Roku's, and why would they drop there daily driver, to buy an expensive gaming machine? People are already happy with browser based games, at home, they don't want an option for higher level gaming.

People are buying these, they'll buy anything: https://cnet3.cbsistatic.com/img/NaSCSK4IJ48BhTCnU2Kz8R9gFAE=/1600x900/2016/09/07/2a3632fe-6eb5-4e80-84fe-8940ce3daf67/airpods-in-action.png

Yeah one and dones that make a shit ton of money. They can spend 1 million, make a smartphone game in 4 months that'll make  50-100 million. Even 25 million at worst.

200 million people aren't buying it, I'm sorry but that simply is not happening. The biggest handheld generation was 150+80million and that was before smartphones. Everyone owns one, they use one and they have their preferred brand usually.

There's absolutely no way this is costing $400 dollars and outperforming snapdragon 821's and A10 chips. They will have to look great, and look premium like peoples current phones and have the nuts and bolts to go with, they have to be at least equivalent to current phones. These phones would have to cost around $650 AT LEAST to even make money. Which they wont.

This would be terrible.

OK, on the ear buds I agree. I have had wireless Ear buds, and headphones for years. I have definitly been thrown for a loop by the people making these out to be such a big deal.

I think people greatly over estimate peoples commitment to these smartphones. I know 100's of people with smartphones, but I only know half a dozen that are brand loyal. Most of them switch brands every upgrade, and many of them never use the phones beyond web browsing, facebook, and phone calls. Most gamers I know don't even play games on their phone, they still haul around their 3DS or Vita, and play quality games.

Sony and Nintendo need to do this. As companies they deserve to give gaming phones a good, and as coonsumers we deserve a choice beyond the duoply of idetical devices. If they gave gaming phones one real go, full support from 3rd parties, full 1st party support, full access to PSN and Nintendo Network, full access to PlayStation Store and eShop, and allowed mobille apps to port over for banking, home security, social, and the sorts. If they did that one time, and it failed, then I would move on, but as long as a gaming phone has never been made, I will continue to push for it to happen. I believe in Gamers, I beleive in people, and I believe there is a lagre untapped market of people that want a better mobile experience, that are just waiting for it to arrive.

200 million? Where did you get that number?

All those apps? You would need the companies that make them to port it the handhelds. What would their incentive be? That "200 million" people would buy one of the handhelds?

And no, the difference between releasing a a New 3DS and releasing an iPhone 7 is massive. With the New 3DS, you have to remind people that it's not much different from the 3DS. With the iPhone 7, you'd need to tell the world all the new and exclusive features it has, in order to differentiate it from previous models.

240 Million people bought the DS and PSP. That was 240 million people that bought a dedicated mobile gaming device. Had Vita and 3DS had phone capabilites, they would have easily held onto most of those users.

There are 200 million people out there that want gaming centric electronic devices. That is way we have had over 200 million consoles sold every gen since PS2, and why PSP and DS sold 240 Million units. Sony and Nintendo have still never offered these 240 million people a phone. If and when they do, those 240 million people will be on board in no time.

And how would you convince all these 200 - 240 million people to ditch their smartphones in favour for your hybrid idea, if you can't even convince a handful of people in this thread?

The people in this forum are much more into gaming than the average handheld buyer (mostly parents, which buy their kids a handheld for $100 - $200 to keep their kids busy/happy.

Looking at the poll number there are currently 27 out of 67 people who would be interested in a Handheld/Smartphone from Sony or Nintendo. So I already have well over a handfull. There are another 9 that would like a 4G device in this style, which could also eleminate their phone with support from twitter, facebook, whatsapp, or directly through Sony and Nintendos social media platforms.

Conveincing more people would be much easier than conviencing people on the forums. The general public has a lot less ties to companies than people on gaming forums. Most people are also not very tied down to their smartphone. Many, many users never use them for anything beyond web browsing, social media, and phone calls. A phone that offers a form factor and functionallity that goes above and beyond iOS and Androids same old same old, would be very welcomed by a good number of people.

In the current market, I think your theory on parents buying kids $100 - $200 handhelds is quite outdated. Most kids have iPhone or iPads now days, because they are always connected devices, with 4G and/or mobile calling and texting.

Looking at your poll options they were already chosen pretty biased. They is no option for keeping the iOS- or Android smartphone for everyday use and just using a simple handheld for some gaming on the go (or just playing games at home instead of portable gaming).

Just look in the reactions to you thread. Who agrees with you that such a hybrid with all its compromises (weight, size compared to a normal smartphone) would be a great idea?

That's really not the reasons I buy a console.

I buy them for the games.

To answer the poll, none of the above. I already have a phone. Another dedicated device would be stupidly inconvenient. Either they get their mobile games on current platforms or they shouldn't even bother.

Why they have to ?
Nintendo is successful with its handheld and soony will never ever make a handheld again

The only problem is nothing but crap can be delivered on the current iOS and Android form factors. It doesn't matter how good a developer is, if all you give them to work with is touch screen and tilt, all you will get is throw away shovelware.

Some people say, but you can use your DS4 and remote play, but that is the ultimate in inconvenience. I already am over loaded when I have to have a phone and a handheld on me, I don't want a phone, and a massive non mobile freindly controller with me at all times.

Finally, I don't want to have to purchase everything twice being forced to use one ecosystem for home, and one for mobile. So either Google and Apple need to give gamers a choice for home that can compete with PS4, PC, and XBO, and a choice that can compete with 3DS and Vita. Or, Sony, Microsoft, & Nintendo need to inject some innovation into the stale, and stagnant mobile industry.

Nintendo is nowhere near successful with there handheld. 60 million is an absolute disaster, it is a bigger fall in marketshare than PS2 to PS3. It is not success when consumers and investers are bagging for you to bring your software to competing devices so they don't have to buy yours. If the NX is not innovative and competitive with consoles, PC, Phones, and Tablets, then Nintendo will loose the rest of the share they have left.

As for Sony, they are in a death spiral riding on Android and Xperia. PlayStation is the only hope they have of keeping a presence in mobile, and in consumer electronics in general for that matter. If Sony does not unite under the PlayStation Ecosystem, the entire company will eventually fade into irrelevance. They need Sony Phones, Televisions, Cameras, Blu-ray Players, Audio Recivers, and Car audio all running on PS4 OS or a variation of it. They need to build up their ecosystem to the point where there is so much money to be made on it, that no software developer can ignore it. In all fact, that is wheree evey company needs to be if they want to survive in the ecosystem driven future.

Just so I can understand. Are you one of the people that has a Console, a Blu-ray Player, and a Streaming device connected to your TV?

I just need to know who I am talking to. I mean I have seen these people that have Tablets, Laptops, PCs, consoles, Smartphone, Handhelds, and streaming devices, and it just boggles my mind. Obviously to each their own, but I just can't wrap my mind around having so much redundancy. I mean, I have money, but that is just irresponsible spending, and creates a fractured and broken market.

Everybody has all the right in the world to do what they want, and I am a huge advocate of that, but I just like to remind people that their actions do have consequences. Every dollar we spend is a vote, and it is the most powerful form of voting we have. In electonics every extra decvice we use creates another problem for programers. Consolidation is key to continuing to make progress in electronics, and build a better environment for creators.
