Pixel is way diferent than Nexus. Nexus was just an experiement, and had nothing special except the most bare bones version of Android. With Pixel Google is adding deeper intergration, and optimizing Android around the device, making it much more iPhone like than Nexus or any Android ever was.

How so? Give me some examples of what Pixel has that Nexus didn't have apart from VR.

Everything will run better on Pixel, because the whole OS will be optimized around it, including all development tools. Other manufactures will still be able to make phones that use android, but google is going to make it harder and harder to compete, and continue to give benifits to Pixel users.

Why on earth would Google do that? Why would Google piss off the very companies that make Android even viable? If they piss off the manufacturers, not only are they not going to make Phones for Google such as the Pixel phone, but they will make their own OS. You do realize that Google has the least amount of market share right?

Yes, Apple and Google phones run on ARM, but Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendos should run on x86. x86 is very capable of being used in mobile, and it is time it is utilized, and gives some competition to ARM in this field.

Umm no its not wtf... Where did you get this information from? All Sony and MS phones run on ARM, not x86 and thats not going to change. (Nintendo doesn't have any phones obviously) The reason is Intel hasn't had much success in the mobile space at all and they are the only ones that are making x86 atm on mobile... Also all the chips they produced are slower than the ARM cpus at the time of release.

They can absolutly run the games at lower res, they wouldn't even be ports. All games on PS4 and XBO already run on scalable engines. That is why the Scorpio and the Neo are happening. With the same CPU and GPU in the PS4 at 10nm FinFET, and reduced GPU cores, running the games on PS4 phone would be very little work.

You really don't know how any of this even works do you? Ps4 + X1 + Ps4Pro + Scorpio all run on x86 + Radeon Graphics. AMD isn't even on mobile yet and intel is doing horrible with their mobile chips. Please give me your sources.

The mobile phone market is an incredibly oversaturated market. Any new competitor will have to suffer a lot in order to get any kind of marketshare, and gaming is not the key element here. Mobile gaming is big due to a series of elements that make it different from regular gaming, and even then, it's not the element that pushes the market (social interaction, multimedia, internet browsing...).

If Sony and specially Nintendo had to push their own mobile brand they would face way more trouble than it's worth. Sony at least has the Xperia foothold there, but Nintendo has his software and IPs wich, while highly successful in a mobile environement, would not be enough to make people choose their phones over others.

And let's be real. If Microsoft, with all its power, influence and money, has not been able to make Windows Phones something popular, what can Sony and Nintendo do?

Actually, they are making inroads but they need a decent catalog...

No.

Nintendo can make a hybrid home console/portable.

Sony should just focus on the mainline Playstation systems (i.e. PS4).

Let Google, Samsung and Apple fight over the mobile space.

Why should Nintendo stop there. A 4G version of the NX would be a major boost to sales. It would make the mobile side of the device a worth while peice of tech. A non mobile connected NX would be absolutly worthless outside of the home. They need to take full advantage of the hybrid design, if it does indeed end up being that.

On Sony's end, this would only add to the mainline device. Every PS4, PS4 Pro, PS4 Phone would add to the ecosystem, and make it a more desirable place for consumers and developers.

Google, Apple, and Samsung are fighting over the same market. They offer no innovation, and will continue this trend for decades unless they get competition. Right now, there are no options in mobile, it is three sides of the same coin.

I'm failing to see the market for such a device

I can see a mobile version of vita being an extension of the xperia brand but not too any massively successful reception.

There where 160 Million DSs, and 80 Million PSPs. Due to the lack of a phone feature sales of 3DS and Vita dropped, but even with such limited devices they still have sold 60 Million and 15 Million. Give people the option to use the PS4 and NX as there phone, and they can easily get back to or above the numbers of DS and PSP.

They don't have to dominate the market. The best consoles have only sold 20 Million units a year at peak while PCs sell over 300 Million and often more. The big 3 don't just abandon console because of that. They continue to make consoles and at the best times, they make billions a year. If they could sell 50 Million phones a year against 1.4 billion smartphones, they would be doing just fine, and raking in billions.

Um what? Sony don't need to do shit, should start away from handhelds just keep making their smartphones

Sony is loosing more and more marketshare in the smartphone business every year. Two years ago Xperia was outselling PS4 3:1, while loosing billions. This year they are looking to sell 20 Million PS4s at over a  Billion in profits, and 15 Million Xperias with a Loss.

Xperia is in a downward spiral with no hope of growing marketshare. A PlayStation Phone is the only thing they could do to turn around their mobile fortunes. They will never gain ground with a me too Xperia phone in the over saturated slab phone market. They have to offer something new to the market that brings experiences not possible on the current duoply devices.

A playstation phone isn't turning anything around. People aren't going to change their phone device to play playstation games on the go. They already released an Xperia Play and it did awful.

Sony aren't interested in it, they don't need to be, they're doing perfectly fine without it, it would just be another product to bleed money

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

So basically toss Nintnendo out there to fuel Sony's mobile hybrid so you don't have to choose over the two and maybe once in your lifetime, choose to stick with Nintendo?. It'll never happen. and so far the mobile market is over saturated that the other two won't be able to make much of a dent at all.

The idea is kinda interesting, but it wouldn't sell as much as you'd think. Most handhelds lack the features to really compete smartphones. And not only that, but you really think that Nintendo and Sony have the money to constantly release consoles?

The only reason handhelds lack features of phones is because they are not good mobile devices. With 24/7 connections, and the ability to communicate, they would quickly become just as versitile, and be more user friendly due to the physical controls.

Sony definitly does, as they already release new phones, TVs, cameras, headphones, Blu-ray players, etc. every single year. Sony could easily drop Xperia and start putting out new PlayStation  phones with yearly revisions for the latest bluetooth, nfc, and other communication tech, while doing major upgrade every 3 years like they have done with PS4 to PS4 Pro.

Be serious. Why would they offer that smartphones don't already? Physical buttons? You think that the majority of smartphone users care about that?

And making consoles is a entirely different process than making all those things. They'd have to have at least 2 kinds of handhelds at launch, and they'd constantly have to design more. A handheld is different from a smartphone in that it's primary feature is to play games. They'd have to have CPUs, GPUs that are specifically designed for that. Adding smartphone features will just further complicate the process.

Double post, sorry.

Good luck to Sony and Nintendo if they go that route.

Would make Vita and WiiU sales/user numbers look fantastic in comparison.

Not sure how devices that would sell Vita and WiiU lifetime sales every 12 months on a bad year, would shed a fantastic light on those platforms sales?

Xperia Play was not a PlayStation device. It was a bastard product at the end of a bad relationship with Ericsson. Sony never wanted anything to do with it. It had no access to PlayStation Network or the PlayStation Store propper, and it never recievced any software from World Wide Studios. It was an under speced, non supported product, and is not even indicitive of what a PlayStation Phone could do in the market.

If they made this product, it would be a bigger seller, and bigger money maker than the PS4 itself. Kaz is interested, he has said the mobile space needs an innovative product, and is working hard to unifiy Sony under the PlayStation OS, and the PlayStation Network. He just has to convience the board to fold Sony Mobile into Sony Interactive Entertainment. With SCI making up the majority of profits at Sony, it will be easier and easier to do as time goes on.

I would hate a phone/handheld hybrid. I am OCD with my gaming stuff, but my phone goes through some heavy wear and tear.

Screw that, keep them seperate!
