Forums - Nintendo - Wii-U version of Bloodstained may be cancelled in favor of an NX release

IMO they should wait till the NX is released, and do a survey among wiiU backers then wich platform they prefer.
Some other kickstarted indies cancelled PS3 ports in favor of Ps4 ports because the playerbase had overwhelmingly migrated to the Ps4. They offered one on one support for everyone who did not own a Ps4.
I think if they want/have to cancel that is the right way to go about it.

that's good news no?

Switch!!!

They screwed, either way they take it. A lot of people will never trust backing a game, when it comes to a Nintendo version.

Let´s be honest, most WiiU owners will buy a NX. And, how much would this game sell anyways?

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

With that said, if the WiiU version goes, I am 99% certain that the Vita version will be canned as well.  Either you support legacy systems or you don't; I don't think one will get special treatment when the other doesn't.

That's what I think too.

If NX happens to be high-powered portable that readily runs UE4 - why bother with a likely inferior handheld? Especially if HH NX kills the rest of Vita's market?

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Wasnt interested in this game but personally Im waiting on the NX to launch. I expect year 1 and 2 to be fairly good, God knows what happens after that. Personally, I haven't bought a Wii U game in about 2 years. That system has been dead to me for ages.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

Hyper Light Drifter is a small game. They wouldn't need a porting team to port it.

I'm not being defensive, I'm just being logical. You can't compare this to Bloodstained because:

1. The size of their development team is different.

2. Bloodstained is much more ambitious.

Whatever you say Mr. Preston ;)

But more seriously, I'm beginning to forget what the point is here.  That we should be more sympathetic to Hyper Light Drifter?  Or Bloodstained?  Or neither?  Or both?

Sure, team sizes are different, but if you go to Kickstarter for money then add stretch goals for certain platforms, you make provisions for how you can get the games on to those platforms.  Team size; ambition of game has nothing to do with it - you factor in the effort it'll take to get the games onto those platforms and budget accordingly.  By the looks of things, HLD budgeted $100k while Bloodstained budgeted $250k, which sounds about proportionate based on what you're telling me about ambitions of projects.

As a side note, I do find HLD's situation more excusable given the fact that he assumed the issues between Gamemaker & Nintendo would've been worked out and they never were, which is largely out of his control.  Bloodstained being based in an engine which never worked with WiiU or Vita is just stupid.  Hence why I never backed it.

Xander is just a username. I got it from Sander, which was a name I liked.

I'm kinda in the camp that kickstarter games are pretty much a scam. Even if they do happen there are very few examples of good kickstarter games.

Some good has come from Kickstarter.

The Good: Pillars of eternity, Divinity : Original Sin, Yooka-Laylee (looks great).

The bad:  Shadowrun returns, planetary annihilation, wasteland 2, Mighty Nr 9.

Wastland 2 and Shadowrun Returns were bad? Since when?

Makes perfect sense, and it's really Nintendo's fault - not that I'm blaming them for deserting the failure that is Wii U.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Since the game won't be out until 2018, its really hard to justify a Wii U port.

It a platform with little support in 2016.

Some people would be upset if the Wii U version got cancelled and I could understand why. But this is also why crowd-funded games are such a huge risk. In the game's early stages, Wii U wasn't doing too bad. This game was also intended to come out in 2017. But things change, unpredictable roadblocks come along and suddenly viable game systems are no longer viable. Chances are most Wii U owners will have made the jump to NX by the time Bloodstained comes out so a change in development may be economically necessary.
