HHH has been doing mostly a good job so far so I want to give the benefit of the doubt that maybe this is some kind of swerve... But, if this is what it looks like it may legitimately be the worst booking decision I have ever seen.

The whole appeal of Cody was that he was a guy who recognized he wasn't being used right, and instead of just sitting back and let it happen, he took a bet on himself, went out, made himself a bigger star, and then came back better than ever. This is the opposite of that. This is him earning his spot and then just politely moving aside for the Rock. Cody just comes out of this just looking like for lack of a better term, a total cuck. He just seems weak and impotent. Like he's getting screwed and he's thanking The Rock for the pleasure. Plus a big part of the story was about Dusty not getting his opportunity when he should have, and Cody wanted to right that wrong... but now he's just not.

The story is similar to Wrestlemania 20... and 30... At 20, Benoit was the talent who had been overlooked, won the Royal Rumble, and then when it came time to finally have his moment, HBK said no, and it was his time. Except, unlike Cody, Benoit said fuck no, and beat them both at Mania. At 30, Bryan was obviously the guy who the fans wanted, but an aging Hollywood star came back and was put into the picture... and again, Bryan said no. And the fans said no. And, whether or not it was really the plan all along or if they changed it along the way, Maina 30 ended as it should have. Instead of acting like those guys Cody just rolls over.

Just completely baffling booking. Even if you wanted to get to the Rock Reigns, literally the worst way to do it. Maybe the Rock just forced it since he's now on the board. I'm still hoping either it's a swerve, or maybe fan reaction will change the booking, but this sucks. Before I was going to shell out the ridiculous price to buy tickets and go. At this point, I don't really even feel like watching at home.

Wouldnt be surprised if it came above HHH's position considering Dwayne Johnson is in the Board of Directors for TKO now.

Very possible. Think the fans will reject it. Last night the reaction was mixed. But with the surprise factor wearing off I think the people are going to finally turn on the Rock.

I hope we see the same thing that happened between Batista, Orton and Bryan few years ago.

But I doubt it...

This is an even bigger shot in the foot than the 2015 Royal Rumble... Which ironically enough was the last time Rock and Roman were in Philly in the ring together... It did NOT go well.

It's such a bad decision that I almost feel like it has to be a work. Like they can't possibly be that stupid.

To put on my tin foil hat or a moment... Lets say your former CEO did something like... I dunno pimp out a young girl and shit on her head. And you wanted your fans to focus on something else. You can't just give them something they want. They can still be happy about that and angry about something else at the same time. The only way to get them to stop being angry about Vince is by making them angrier about something else.

So you make them angrier about something else. And, you make them angry about something else. Something that you can easily fix. And once you fix that problem the fans will forgive you for that, and forget about... what's his name? Who did something wrong? Idk who cares anymore, we just got justice for Cody!

#WeWantCody is trending.

Wonder if there will be some backlash within WWE - I dont think Rock would care though.

This smells of a work to me. It’s an old trick that dates back to at least Wrestlemania 20.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I guess we wait and see how it plays out and if there is a bigger twist to the story.

However if Cody got screwed, got to feel for the bloke.

Sometimes I wish the AEW actually did succeed and gave WWE a run for it's money. Too many good wrestlers got shafted by the WWE in the past, and this is starting to look the same.

If AEW had more money, wrestlers might not be tempted to move to WWE.

TNA had potential till Hogan ruined it. At one stage a lot of people here in Aus were watching TNA

Yeah... I think the Rock would care depending on how severe the backlash is.

Being well liked is kind of his whole thing. If we assume the Rock's non-wrestling fans are going to tune in just to see him at Mania, which I'm skeptical of, and they see him getting booed and people chanting for someone else. I think that's kind of the opposite of what he wants.

Definitely possible. In a romantic comedy, towards the end, there has to be a moment where they make it seem like they're not going to get together. You have to make the audience think they're not going to get what they want, so when they actually do, it's even bigger.

That being said... Putting over an old star instead of the obvious choice is something WWE also tends to do quite a lot. Rock going over Punk, Goldberg over Wyatt, etc.

Or say the plan was to do a threeway with the Rock, or a four way with Rock and Reigns. If you did that right off the bat, fans would shit on it because they'd have wanted a one on one with Cody vs Reigns. But, if you make them think Cody's not going to be in it at all, then put him in it, that's a different story.

If it is a work though... Then well played. Part of the fun of being a wrestling fan is being worked, and making you feel like your support for your favorite is actually helping them. If I'm being worked, just call me mark.

AEW has plenty of money. If the rumor mill is to be believed they often offer more than WWE in contracts. The thing is that AEW isn't great at getting people over, especially if you are looking to become a mainstream star. People think they have a better chance in WWE.

But... if what's going on is legit, maybe that perception is changed. Cody was kind of the poster child of someone who was floundering in AEW and then became a true star in WWE. Yet still gets passed over by the Rock at what should be his crowning moment. I could see that causing some people to rethink things.

A big part of it is also Rock's fragile ego.

The man has been on a bad losing streak lately.
- Black Adam flopped and basically killed the DCEU.
- Young Rock got cancelled.
- The XFL was forced to merge w/ the USFL in order to last longer than one season.

For a guy who, for decades, was used to feeling like he could do no wrong and that everything he touches turns to gold, this string of Ls has gotta hit him right where it hurts. Now in order to get back on track, he has to go back to the one place he feels he will NEVER fail at w/ the people and fanbase he believes will always have his back...
...Only he did the ONE thing to severely piss off and alienate that fanbase, which was sabotage their new Chosen One in order to have one more moment of glory... A page straight out of Hulk Hogan's playbook. Terry would be proud.

Maybe this will all turn out to be one giant swerve and we still end up w/ Cody beating Roman at Mania to get his crowning moment. I sincerely HOPE that's the case, but for the first time in the Triple H era, I'm not holding my breath. This feels like it was a decision made over Triple H's head. This feels like something Vince would've done, only w/ Dwayne instead.

For someone who grew up in the business w/ his father, grandfather, and being a part of the Anoa'i family, and seeing/knowing the blood, sweat, tears, and lives his relatives gave to the business, he should've known better than to sabotage and humiliate the next white hot Babyface, not to mention the rest of the roster, who have given their own blood, sweat, tears, and lives for the future of this business, just to protect his massive, fragile ego.

People's Champion, my ass.
