It's such a bad decision that I almost feel like it has to be a work. Like they can't possibly be that stupid.
To put on my tin foil hat or a moment... Lets say your former CEO did something like... I dunno pimp out a young girl and shit on her head. And you wanted your fans to focus on something else. You can't just give them something they want. They can still be happy about that and angry about something else at the same time. The only way to get them to stop being angry about Vince is by making them angrier about something else.
So you make them angrier about something else. And, you make them angry about something else. Something that you can easily fix. And once you fix that problem the fans will forgive you for that, and forget about... what's his name? Who did something wrong? Idk who cares anymore, we just got justice for Cody!
