Forums - Sony - A Question For People Who Have Pre-ordered The PS4pro

Is The PS4Pro A Replacement Or Your First PS4?

I'm selling my PS4 to get a PS4Pro 51 23.83%

I'm keeping my PS4 but still buying a PS4Pro 71 33.18%

The PS4Pro is my first PS4 24 11.21%

I may sell my PS4 to get a Pro eventually. I think one multi-hundred dollar purchase a year on Sony game tech is good enough. Last year it was the PS4 I already have, this year it will be the PSVR, maybe next year will be the Pro.

I'm waiting to find out how much of a difference the Pro actually makes. Mostly I'm looking at PSVR performance, which has currently been given two thumbs up as running pretty fantastically on the regular PS4. PS exclusives will still look great on regular PS4, and third party games will probably still half ass taking advantage of the better hardware because they don't want to risk alienating the existing audience. I have a bad feeling the Pro will be a waste of money, and so I'm not going to buy into the hype even if I can afford it.

I have not pre-ordered (never do) but will buy one when I get my hands on psvr. I'm keeping the old one for the kids while I race around in VR.

I'm gonna be keeping my OG Ps4 for two reasons:

1. It's an absolutely fantastic "cable box" for PlayStation Vue, and will maintain its usage as such in the back living room, where my wife and daughter will typically lounge while watching TV/playing with Legos. They will also be keeping the XBR55X900A Sony TV in there. Meanwhile, I'll activate my account to the Pro in the front living room, where it will make its home on my XBR55X930D alongside my Backwards Compatible PS3.

2. That shit's got P.T. on it, and that's a piece of gaming history as far as I'm concerned.

I'm getting the Pro, and that will be my 3rd PS4. Now I will have the Pro in the living room, Number two in the bedrom, and Number 1 in the office. I may even get a slim for the bedroom and give number two to a friend or family member, or use it as a PSVR traveling demo unit. Still have to figure out what I want to do in regards to that.

At this point I plan to get a new PS4 every year, even in the X1XX series minor revisions. I will just keep on dishing the used ones off to friends, family, and co-workers. At $300 to $400 a year, it ain't bad considering I don't buy smartphones, computers, tablets, or set top devices.

Will keep my PS4 once I get the Pro, use one in house and the other to travel with me.
