Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo to Take 'Final Orders' for Wii U

Take with grain of salt. All linked to Gameseek, and whether they are reliable or not

"It seems that the system may be going into its final chapter, with online retailer Gameseek reporting that Nintendo is taking 'final orders' on Wii U console units; apparently no more orders will be taken from retailers by the big N after 30th September. Quite whether that's the case globally is unclear, but it's the inevitable next step in the current home console being phased out. It's the natural process considering its poor sales - cease taking retail orders, wind down any remaining manufacturing orders, and allow current stock to be naturally sold off."

"Nintendo is now taking final orders on Wii U consoles. Those that haven't ordered by the end of next week (Friday September 30) will not be able to order the Wii U again from Nintendo. Is this Nintendo's last roll of the dice with the Wii U so they can plan to give retailers details about the new hardware next month? Is something exciting due to be announced in October?"

This was obvious from their financial forecasts - they expected to sell, and therefore to supply, only 800k Wii Us from March 2016-2017. That's not a level for sustainable mass production.

Time to buy up for future profit.

October? This must confirm something.

The collectors value will be really high in 5-10 years.

They would abandon millions of users this quickly. Anything less than 5 years of full support is bad business for a game console. They owe the 13 plus million users another year of games and console support. Nintendo has ceased to be Nintendo to me. Mr. Iwata said that Nintendo would stop being Nintendo if they started putting their games on smartphones. Well, that has come to pass.

The OG xbox cycle was 4 years. Plus there will be games in 2017. They're not abandoning those players. Think of it as them saying the club is full and that only those in the club get to dance inside.

I think that most will be abandoning Wii U for NX anyway.

Well, Europe is easily the worst market for Wii U so this is not that surprising. Weird that this console will end up being discontinued before PS3 and X360, consoles that came out in 2005/2006.

The Wii U is going to be a very valuable system one day.
