Forums - Nintendo - The Pokemon Company CEO basically confirmed that NX is hybrid

Pokemon CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara has been quoted as saying that the company will create games for Nintendo’s next platform, the NX.

The NX is trying to change the concept of what it means to be a home console device or a hand-held device,” he said. “We will make games for the NX.”

The Pokemon Company CEO: “We will make games for the NX”

Like he's got a choice ^^

This is the most solid piece of information about the device we've gotten so far, from one of the closst people to Nintendo, and it's something we knew already.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Come join The 2018 Obscure Game Monthly Review Thread.

I like the idea of a console-handheld hybrid.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

Does the Pokemon Company even make games? I thought they were just anime/merchandise with all the actual development done by GameFreak or someone else.

Actual development is done by GameFreak, but the company is basically management firm for Pokemon. They sort of decide the decision making of where it will go (Not like they actually would go anywhere else, since Nintendo owns a huge part of them and the actual IP itself.)

Now we REALLY need them SCD

33% isn`t really a huge part, and is actually the same % that GameFreak owns of them. If GameFreak wanted to make say a home console Pokemon game rather than a handheld one I don`t expect the Pokemon Company would have all that much say in it.

Regardless, the term `make` games for it would still be incorrect since they aren`t actually making them either way.

Nintendo actually owns a bit more than 33% since the own a piece of the third partner as well. However the Pokemon Company does manage the brand, and I have never heard the three partners having issues with the management.

Also remember Nintendo holds the trademark on the franchise itself.

While true I think it`s a fairly negligible amount of Creatures Inc that they own. Low enough that they don`t list it on their financials even.

Although I still expect GameFreak have much more say other Pokemon than TPC. They are the ones that are designing all the monsters and what not and it would be pretty strange for them to say to GameFreak `no you can`t do that` especially since GameFreak as part owners are effectively one of TPC`s bosses.

Well of course, since they have always got their way. Given I imagine if Nintendo really wanted, it could have invested in a developer to make console games for them like they did with Gamecube.
