Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox One S has trouble playing some 4k Blu-ray movies

That's too bad, because as I've learned right after the PS4 Pro presentation, 4k bluray is really important for gaming consoles. Because reasons...

Isn't odd a "Pro" device marketed for 4K doesn't have it? Especially when 4K streaming looks bad in comparison. But I don't want to have an argument about it.

ANYWHO, patches fix problems.

Great to hear.  I wonder if there were just some bad discs... or maybe fake reports.

The ps4 was not the console whose marketing was "tv experience, movies, tv, tv experience, sports, call of duty, tv, tv...", so it doesn't surprise me that much they decided to cut costs on what is superfulous for gaming in order to meet the $400 mark.

But anyway, obviously I hope whatever bugs are happening do get patched out. I see no reason why they wouldn't over time.

I think that is a usual problem with bluray in general. My old Samsung BDP also doesn't play new BDs because it doesn't get a new firmware release and that is needed (potentially needs new keys for playback).
I don't see why this would've changed with 4k uhd. MS probably just needs a software update and done.

But how is the picture quality? JRPGFan wants to know!

Yeah, that is why Cerny talked so much about TV and 4k and Netflix and Playstation Vue and so on in the last press conference.

X1 S is a UHD player at well under $399, so meh. I see a lot of talk about TV, streaming, and Call of Duty on a machine not Xbox One. So... I'm just gonna move on.

In numerous cases we've actually seen X1 have bugs not affecting everyone but are addresed via patches relatively quickly.

Mark Cerny talked about netflix and Vue?

Are you trolling me now? Honest question

damn,.. that's like 10% of the available UHD movies.

The industry has not sold enough 4K movies to have a proper sample size in determination of anything. :p
