For  IGN, and for some people, Having a 4K Blu-ray Player is enough to compete against anything.

Imagine if you don't have internet, have a cap on your internet or stuck with slow and unreliable internet.  Then ask these people of they would of wanted a $K blu-ray player in the PS4 Pro.

I'm sure that people with 4K TV will atleast have a decent internet.

It is good to have options, but you can't compare a gaming machine by its extra features.

Um... exactly what did the guy say in the video that was incorrect? lol, he's not talking about power. And the PS4P is not a big upgrade or anything.

Digital Foundry says it is a significant difference visually.

PS4P wouldn't be a big upgrade for him even if it was 6TF.

More likely than not the answer would be no - just basing this off of physical BluRay sales. You have a bigger chance of them saying they want to play a DVD than a Blu-Ray let alone 4K Blu-Ray.

It's true, the xbox one s is cheaper, upscale games to 4k too, has hdr, uhd br drive, xbox live is better than ps network and has a battlefield 1 bundle, the xbox scorpio has all that and the performance will be better than any console next year. I don't like xbox that much these days and I prefer the better performance of the ps4 but xbox one s is kinda attractive too.

To me the difference between 4k/1440p and 1080p is much bigger than SD and HD when fully utilize. Also depends on tv size, distance from t.v.,ect. Even if we aren't talking about rez but just tflops,  2tflops will make a lot more difference in textures, lighting, ect then .5tf. Which was the point I was getting at. The person I was arguing was trying to say Scorpio and PS4 pro difference will be the same or similar to Xbox one and PS4 which isn't the case. As numbers get bigger even at the same percent the difference will always get larger.

900p / 1080p isn't no where close to 4k vs 1080p. Microsoft already stated the console will be 4k ready.

The difference between Ps4 pro and Scorpio is probably going to be 1080P upscale to 4k vs Native 4k. This won’t be as major as 1080P vs 4K! Beside, we don't even know if Scorpio is even powerful enough to run Native 4k.

It will be. The Pro is already hitting a native 4k with some games, so the Scorpio will certainly do so too (just with more consistency).

No, it won't be. Mind giving us a list of those native 4K games on the PS4? I know TLoU is one but that's a remastered game. What else?

OP seems confused between the concepts of "competing" and "winning".

We're still in the dark details wise with almost all of the confirmed Pro games, but The Elder Scrolls Online is another that's been confirmed for a native 4k. In-general a native 4k should be possible for the Pro with games sitting at mid-tier graphics, like TLOU:R and TESO. We also know, based on DF's mock-up from a bit ago, that the Pro should be able to hit about 1800p on high-end titles like TW3. Assuming that's accurate, i certainly expect the Scorpio to hit 4k more often than it doesn't. Ignoring unknown variables and assuming a linear jump, the Pro to the Scorpio would be akin to 1800p to 4k.

It's worth noting this is without considering the effect of Sony's up-scaling technique, which is currently a bit of an unknown. If it's as effective as they appear to believe, there will likely be instances where a developers opts for a lower resolution than the Pro can actually handle (using those resources for other things), and letting the up-scaling technique fill the hole. We'll have to wait and see on that front.

Why wouldn't it compete? The PS1 had to compete with the more powerful N64, the PS2 had to compete with the Gamecube and Xbox, the Wii competed with the 360 and PS3 and the 3DS competed with the Vita. The Slim is a game console just like the Neo/Pro. Like another stated it has to compete because it has no choice. It has its benefits on Price and a UHD player so there are people whowould consider an S over a Pro for those reasons.

As for Scorpio. Too early to tell. I have no idea to be honest. Sounds like a next gen system from what im hearing.
