Zkuq said: OK. If it actually has a tactical aspect to it, unlike the more recent Dynasty Warriors games, I'll take it. If not, you can shove it where the Sun doesn't shine, Koei Tecmo. Oh, no tactical aspect? Then shove it, I'm not interested. In case it's not clear, I have what they've done with the series after the 6th gen. I had some faith at first, but it's actually got even worse. And yes, I know there's the Empires games, but they're not the same, and even there strategy isn't very important (and neither are tactics, but at least they're useful). |
You might like Romance of the Three Kingdoms set of games, I am waiting for the next sale to pick it up on the ps4/steam (given that might not be exactly what you want either). Also tactically warriors games have not done that in long time. I cannot remember the last time I had to rely on any of my allies armies.

Yeah, I loved RoTK XI, and now I too am waiting for XIII's price to come down... It's different though. There's tons of great strategy games, but what initially caught my interest in Dynasty Warriors was the tactical aspect combined with action gameplay. Obviously RoTK doesn't have that, as good as it is.

In a long time? I can't remember warriors games ever having any tactical aspects
It actually gets kind of annoying how pathetically weak your ai allies are sometimes, so relying on them isn't really possible. Even in the Empires games you often have to have your allies all travel round in a group of like 4 or 5 officers just so they can survive and don't drop dead instantly.

They had a tactical aspect during the 6th gen. Back then, allies actually were able to accomplish things, and you had real choice as to where to go. Now, all allies are practically useless, and whenever someone tells you what to do, you either obey or it's game over very quickly. There's no real choice or room for thinking anymore. I also hate how they decided to largely ditch the great historical storyline (it's still there, in the background) and choose to focus on their overly simplistic motives and all that. I honestly don't understand how anyone can like that, or think that anyone likes that. I sort of understand getting rid of the tactical part, but not the story...
