Forums - Sony - I have a bad feeling about Playstation Home

Two things to remember about Home:

(1) it's not just a playground. It's going to be a multimedia space -- accessible by PSP, PC, PS3 -- where you can access and store a range of media. Not easy to pull off. Think of how PS3 updates inadvertently break media streaming (mostly because Sony doesn't have control over streaming software), and you have an idea of the pitfalls. They'll eventually get there, but it's good they're taking their time.

(2) The most interesting innovations are going to be user creations. Think YouTube, only in three dimensions. The possibilities are immense -- but Home could easily be shipwrecked by overzealous corporate policing or monopolization. Sony needs to walk a fine line here and listen carefully to the user community.

A definition of stealth trolling

"Usual methods include saying, or eluding to, things they know will piss a group of people off but without actually breaking any outright rules rules of the board. A lot of times these people will go out of their way to let it be known.....many, many times, to the people that what they say is "their opinion"."

If you look back to my older posts, I called him out for stealth trolling not trolling.
Yes I agree, it is his opinion and he didn't break any rules.
I'm just calling him out for being for intentionally putting down "home" or atleast being close-minded.
And I did present counterpoints did I not?

You can call something trolling or stealth trolling but it's still trolling so I really don't care that you dug up some random definition of stealth trolling.  I seriously doubt Fishy made his comments deliberately to piss people off but instead he really thought that.  Again, it is possible to express negative opinions of something without trolling.

And once again, this is a thread about having a bad feeling of Home so he's in line with the thread.  He could have gone over the line with his comments by actually insulting people, bit his comments were fine.

And I don't think I ever accused you of trolling did I?

@ iclim4: So fishy thinks there is something fishy about Home... big deal, he has the right to have an oppinion even if he is a mod... he sayed what he sayed as a response to Mars... so he doesn´t want to chat with other gamers after a game... bid deal, neather do I... if Home is not our cup of tea let us express that oppinion... we are not saying its going to suck or nobody will like it... its just not for us and we have reasons for that...and again the thread is about Home potentially not beeing that great...

I didn't think that this thread isn't about Home potentially not being that great. The OP simply expressed concern that he/she is worried that it may not eventually come out soon, or at all. People have since derailed it with comments such as 'this is a gimmick' and 'so Home is for bragging rights?'.

Personally, I have no interest in Home at all, but I do think we will be getting it within the year. No worries for those who are actually excited about it.

I called him a stealth troll with that definition in mind.
So I'm not insulting him to the extent that you perceived.

And I made an edit, but I guess you missed it.
So I will post it again.

"Also there is nothing wrong about seeing negatives, but completely skipping out on the positives?
That is called propaganda."

And I never said you called me a troll. Did you? Did you really? O_o

You can watch your blu-ray movies or dvd movies that are on your ps3 with your friends in your HOME even if they live 200 miles away.

You can play arcade games, chess etc..
You can live by the beach? Well thats all I know for now dude.

What's the point? Most peoples upstream internet is less than 256k. You can't even watch youtube quality videos with a connection that slow.

and dial-up connections wont exist in the USA after Feb 17th 2009. So oh well. So much for your argument. =P

But could the average dsl, and cable speed stream blu-ray quality? Maybe only ED at most.

average cable speed is 7mbps, so yes if the user lets it load a bit first. DSL is around 5mbps so same thing jsut a touch longer wait.

Upload? or Download? The average upload I believe is 768k.

download, but upload speeds are increasing too slowly.  By Feb 17th, I would expect it to be at least 1mbps upload. Hopefully more, my upload is at 3mbps and Verison FIOS offers 20mbps download and upload which is insane.

PC gaming is better than console gaming. Always.     We are Anonymous, We are Legion    Kick-ass interview   Great Flash Series Here    Anime Ratings     Make and Play Please

Yeah , but that verizon fios is like $200 dollars. I wish they had fios in my area I could get 5mbps d/l, 2 mbps upload for 40-50 dollars a month I think. That still is very slow seeing as leo-j said it allows you to stream the blu-ray to a friend 200miles away+. They would have to be uploading it, while the other is downloading it meaning that would even be slower. So I don't see them adding this feature until the average upload is 5mbps at least.

Edit: I would also like to add we are using bits rather than bytes , and blu-ray space is measured in bytes. If a blu-ray has GBS of information then you must multiply that by 8 to get gb. So that means a let's say 8GB blu-ray would be equivalent to 64gb. Or around 64,000 mbs.  S. Then you would also have to measure how long it would take to upload, and how long it would take to download. SO lets say the download is 5mbps , and the upload is 5mbps. That is about  7.1 hrs to play a movie that has 8 gbs.

The irony is that in other blu-ray threads, you have people saying internet speed is too slow for video. Now that it's a feature for home, all the sudden internet speeds are fine for video. LMAO at the hypocrisy.

This is on a fast connection , and on a size smaller than a dvd. So it would take days-weeks on a 50gb blu-ray, or a 200gb blu-ray in the future.

Minutes after twesterm got me to thinking that I might have misjudged you, you're at it again.
I applaud at your consistency and perseverance Fishy.

But, I digress.
I'll just leave this thread.
Carry on FishyJoe.

Though just a word of concern Fishy.
Try to live up to your status.
