Forums - Gaming - Industry Veteran Interplay Puts Its Entire Library Of Properties Up For Sale

The veteran firm - which can count Earthworm Jim, Clayfighter and MDK amongst its titles - is offloading "video game assets and intellectual property" which covers some 70 titles.

Here's what Eric Caen, President of Interplay, had to say:

"Interplay has entertained millions of players with its well-recognized games, including Earthworm Jim, Freespace, Giants, Kingpin, Messiah, MDK, Run Like Hell, Sacrifice, Battlechess, Clayfighter, Dark Alliance, and Descent. As game creators, we are proud of the entertainment these properties have provided over the years. With the proliferation of mobile, augmented reality, virtual reality and other new forms of consumption, we believe that consumers are ready to experience and interact with Interplay's characters, stories and game play in ways never possible before. We look forward to seeing how this unique portfolio of interactive entertainment icons will evolve for the worldwide audience."

Hopefully this means that I we'll finally going to get Earthworm Jim 4! I have been reading rumors about that game for almost a decade now.. :/

Clayfighter, lost vikings and MDK might be worth a buy if your looking for something.

I dont think earth worm jim would be worth much, without the cartoon in our times, no one really knows of him, except old farts that probably wont buy a earth worm jim game.

These IPs are living on borrowed time. Although some of them could step out of the mind shadow if they find the right buyer, most of them will descend to unknown tales.

Uh, so should I rush to GOG to get the games I'm even slightly interested in in case the next owner takes them down?

Hmm, might bag me a cheap IP as an investment. I wonder what I can get. *goes to Interplay wiki page*

Hmm, pie.

So how much? I got some change.

I could see a 3D version of Lost Vikings (1st or 3rd person) where you can swap between the characters to advance through the puzzles.

Clayfighter was ahead of its time, It has that "flair" that Killer instinct has now.

I could see either of those being bought and made decent games out of.

Murder Death Kill  (MDK) is just a badass name, but it could be re imagined into a new shooter as well.

I rember there was some hype around Descent back in the day.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Need to find out how first, but if you can't afford one... halfsies?

The best ones to go for are the ones without much pull, basically Earthworm Jim is out because it's too well known. Yet Loaded? PS1 classic, I'd happily get that.

Hmm, pie.

Why get "Loaded" though? its a top down shooter,... its so damn generic.
Does it have some insane story? characters youd need? I think that IP would just be throwing money out the window, chances you ll ever see it used again are probably slim to non.
