Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft: Xbox Scorpio's power advantage over PS4 Pro 'will be obvious'

LudicrousSpeed said:
The gap should be obvious. The Pro merely upgraded an already weak CPU. For all the talk Sony did about 4k, the games aren't native 4k, and it doesn't even play UHD discs.

Plus with Sony limiting what devs can do for Pro owners, I don't see the point in buying it. MP games can't run better on Pro because it would be bad for communities? Uh, ever hear of PC gaming?

You make it sound like Scorpio isn't doing the same thing just with more gpu and ram. MS has not boasted about its cpu (possibly just the old one upclocked like the PS4P) and by all current reports Scorpio will have the same relationship (and limitations) with XBO as Pro does with the PS4.

And therein lies the problem with Scorpio. No exclusives. If everything that will launch on the XBO is coming to PC, there's really no point in getting a Scorpio. Now, there will be a few who prefer the console experience, but a big part of that IS exclusives.

@ OP

If they aren't worried, will they be giving sales numbers, now? No? Didn't think so. And they should be when the Pro is $349, has already had a year to take the top spot for 4K console gaming, and they're just launching at $499.

Doubt Scorpio is launching at $499. I love that this narrative keeps getting pushed. MS taking their time to make a proper system that can actually function well on a 4KTV will allow them to launch at $399.99 by waiting for the proper technology to come down in price.

Sony is the one IMO who is rushing for no good reason, with a system that can't really run native 4K games nor can it run 4K movies either, yet it's supposed to be the go to for people with a 4KTV? Gimme a break, Sony.

Lol, rushing? No, Sony knows exactly what it's doing. Sony is getting out a mid-gen refresh, not a late-gen refresh. A late-gen refresh that will be obsolete within a year or so, when Sony announces the PS5, which will probably be 10+ Tflops.

And as for $399 Scorpio, I wouldn't hold your breath. MS is already trying to prep everyone for a higher price with that talk about the GPU alone costing the same as the launch PS3.

With the PS4 Pro and XBox One Scorpio both being tethered to the PS4 and XBone respectively, I'm not sure how big the gap could really be. At best, the difference could be like going from high to ultra, and I really don't think that kind of difference is that important to console gamers. May able to take some of the higher end consumers from Sony, but not going to turn the race around.

That being said, it will be very funny to see the people who made a big deal about the PS4 being more powerful suddenly claim that the difference isn't important.

Not sure why you find it funny when your first paragraph perfectly explains why it won't matter. These consoles are still tied to their OG forms. Which means they're not going to change anything about the outcome of this gen.

It will be funny because there were plenty of people who insisted it did matter who will now change their tune when their preferred console is on the losing end.  It's not about right or wrong, it's about the confirmation bias.

Like I said we'll see. And PS5 better be a lot more than 10 TFLOPS if it's supposed to be some "new generation".

If the Neo can be $400 this year, I think the Scorpio should be the same.

And then the Neo is $300-$349.

Yup, I agree. MS got killed for doing the whole "900p is OK because 900p upscales to 1080p, you can't tell the difference", but PS4 Pro basically selling the same bag of milk is A-OK.

Either make a 4K console or don't make one at all, but don't gimme this "behold the glory of 4K!" stuff when your system can't even display native 4K nor can it run 4K movies.

More about understanding the situation at hand. It would be different if these were the PS5 and XB2, but they aren't. These are mid-gen (late-gen for MS, really) upgrades that are very much tied to their OG consoles. It's not that extra power is bad, but for the rest of this gen, it won't mean anything saleswise.

Can you give me the lottery numbers for two months from now while you're at it?

Of course, this is all operating under the impression that Scorpio will actually run games at native 4K. And, you know.

We haven't even seen it yet. Bit early to be saying stuff like "It'll be native 4K" don't you think?

After today's Pro reveal I decided to buy Scorpio instead because Halo 5, Crackdown, Gears of War 5, Forza Horizon 3, etc. will look miles better in the Microsoft console.

See how this works?
