Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft: Xbox Scorpio's power advantage over PS4 Pro 'will be obvious'

What will Microsoft do to counter PS4 Pro exactly? Do some marketing years before the launch of Scorpio to remember people not to buy the Pro and wait more than a year? Won't work.

The difference will not be so obvious, graphically speaking. They rather make some publicity of Xbox One S advantages: 4k bluray, retrocompatibility, etc. But all Sony has to do is keep pushing their exclusives and they win again.

Price-wise the pro will be more of an internal competition against the slimline PS4. The Scorpio is an actual premium console with all the bells and whistles to prepare us for next gen. More power, an actual 4k player with upres for blu ray and so much more. All they have to say is 1080/ 60fps gaming locked for most games and thats pretty much it. The price is more of a reflection of the power.

Do you really think they will for the 1080p angle in 2017 when 4k will be more mainstream? And do you really think MS will mandare 1080p/60fps?

So many here are convinced that the Scorpio will do native 4k.

I agree with Lawlight. First, neither Sony or Microsoft dictates many rules for developers. Making the game is already very demanding and expensive. Microsoft will do the same as Sony does: asking for 1080p, and all the other specifications will be up to each dev to decide. They will just make the console upscale to 4K and sell as a 4K machine.

Don't believe a word MS says that Scorpio can handle "true 4K gaming". Some simpler games will be native 4K, just like some very few PS4 Pro will, but the vast majority will not. 6 teraflops is a reality for PCs right now and they can't handle 4K for games with stable framerate.

Also, the more "premium" Microsoft tries to get, more trouble for everybody. The distance between X1 and Scorpio will be too high. PS4 Pro has the right specs for the right price, just bundle with Uncharted or Bloodborne and it's done. Meanwhile, Microsoft is still working their strategy.

I believe I understand what Microsoft is trying to do: they will not launch another Xbox after Scorpio. They will have Xbox One S with very low settings to make userbase, and Scorpio will be "the one". I mean... This generation is aging already, how many more years until PS5 comes and fights Scorpio? I don't see Microsoft having the time to plan an huge leap between Scorpio and Xbox Two or wtv.

So, to summarize my opinion: while they will sell some millions of units, Scorpio fails in each scenario and will be too niche. It is healthier to focus on Xbox One S.

3DS, Wii, PSP, Vita, PS2, PS3, PS4 & Steam.

MS shows they have not learned anything from the XB1 release. I guess they've convinced themselves that the PS4 outsold the XB1 because it was more powerful. Where it was their terrible reveal and the $100 price difference that was the real issue.

If Scorpio comes in at $499, and the PSPro is, by then, $299, the power difference will be irrelevant.

Its already been reported that some games will be locked to 30 fps and that Sony decided for it not to be higher so that there is no unfair advantage. That could be true, but if you look at PC gaming.... many different people play at various framerates and qualities based on their internet speed and hardware. Either Sony is gimping the potential of the Pro or the pro just cant hit 60 fps at 1080p.Personally, I think 1080p needs to be locked at a solid 60 fps before next gen before we even think about perfecting 4k. Thats interesting and i'll probably upgrade to the Pro, but seriously, this coupled with the mods issue should basically be a relative shoo for anyone who wants to upgrade to PC. Thats the whole moral of the story. Sony wants to stop gaming enthusiasts who are falling for PC and technical prowess from jumping to PC. This is why it was so bad.

As for the 60 fps, i'm sure MS will be watching all of Sony's failures and use them to capitalize on the Scorpio. Microsoft is better at getting behind mulitplayer gaming than Sony. Strategy-wise, they need the good press after feeling like their console was lesser than Sony's. Microsoft follows Sony's every move, so a retaliation is coming and I can feel it in my bones. $600 is what I expected for the Playstation neo and was pleasantly suprised about the price. Thats all well and good, but the scorpio is most definitely going to be more in price and its no bottleneck to sales when they made it clear that only enthusiasts should buy it (therefore less will be produced like elite controllers).

The Neo is not a sell to any gamer who wants to jump to PC and neither is the scorpio. We will hear what MS has to say next year.

Given that they're both marginal upgrades and not new consoles, sales won't matter because the PS4 is already winning by a huge margin. It'll never catch up.

Power was a huge factor. 1080P was the reason why MANY people chose ps4 over xbox one. The 100$ price difference obviously didn't mean much because the ps4 is still much more popular. But at this point, the ps4 has such a huge lead that it doesn't really matter. I don't think MS can do anything.

Ltd predictions by the time 9th Gen comes out

I don't know....I don't think Power was that big of a factor. I think Sony just made all the right decisions this time around. Excellent Price point, a veery well built machine, great games and took teh steam from MS messing up so badly out the gate. But power was only a huge factor to some interent folks who were basttling it out. But to the rest it was not that big of a deal in my opinion.

Well 90% of the people I talked to said they swtiched because of 1080P, but that's just anectdotal evidence.
