Forums - Gaming - Welp, So Much For That Generationless Market

IMHO,

In the end both scorpion and PS4 pro will underperform! why the hell someone would use $ 399-499 on a console if they can spend less than $300 and play the same games! Middle generation consoles are born as flops, what realy matters is new generation consoles that have games that can only be played in new generation consoles, to bring power to table and no "new games exclusives to the new generation" is a bad move!

Mark my words, Ps4 pro and scorpion are not going to have long lifes, and i can see PS5 coming to life in 2019, perhaps even 2018, for sure.

The idea that Sony is constantly the shining knight in armor and MS is the "bad guy" is just stupid. Sony is doing the same exact shit MS is, they're just doing a crappier version of it and keeping the branding similar.

But this is like a girl who's trying to convince herself that her boyfriend is the "good one" because he'd never cheat on her ... he just got a blow job from that other girl that one time, but that's not cheating because a blow job isn't sex.

C'mon. This is real corporate cognitive dissonance if I've ever seen it.

FWIW, Sony very much deserves the shining knight in armor image while the rest are infidels as far as home systems go ...

Most of this "generationless" BS is unfounded when Sony isn't attempting userbase fragmentation with exclusive software much like the DSi or new 3DS but those actually had games their predecessors couldn't play ...

Sony can choose to define it however they want, but its clear we are in a generational-less market now.

There is not supposed to be a new model of hardware every 3 years with significantly more power. That's not a traditional video game cycle, if that is the new normal (and MS pushes it even further with upgradable hardware on top of that) ... we are definitely in a new era that's more akin to PC gaming.

Until the next generation shows up.

In the word(s) of Shuhei, "if."

Yeah we'll see how gung ho a lot of those people are in a year or so when its clear lots of games are being made really for the higher spec and the "lower spec" version runs with all types of shitty compromises.

New 3DS has one whopping game that doesn't play on the older models, lol, so I'm not sure what point you're even making there. 3DS and DS are hardly "fragmented" libraries.

Until they start making games exclusively for the Playstation 4 Pro or even the Scorpio, they are still locked within the same generation.

When it comes to generationless it's strange that people forget that the Eight generation started back in 2012 with the Wii-U and then PS4/X1 in 2013, 3 years ago. Generation nine will start with the NX next march. Sure the MS plan for their console has changed to try to bring the PC and Xbox group closer together, but as Sony said with the PS3 incorrectly "next generation starts when we say so" one company does not decide that generations have ended, and the launch of the NX should cement that hopefully for people to see.

Are you talking about Xenoblade? Or Binding of isaac? or the 24 SNES virtual consoles which only work on the New 3DS? 26 =/= 1 (there might be more, but I know there are 26 at least)

1. Those people will have been enjoying 4K HDR gaming for roughly a year by then, not to mention games that you just simply can't get anywhere else.

2. New 3DS has more than one game exclusive to it.

Boo hoo, gamers are so mad that they get compromised experiences all the time if we take a look at past generations ...

The point I was trying to make with the 3DS is that just like it, the PS4 Pro won't divide userbases and it could arguably do a better job of delivering that aspect than what Nintendo could possibly ever hope to achieve with the DS/DSi, 3DS/new 3DS, and especially the N64 (Remember how you couldn't play Perfect Dark's campaign or the Brood War missions from Starcraft 64 or Zelda: Majora's Mask without the expansion pak ?) when no exclusives are promised for the PS4 Pro unlike the rest of Nintendo's immediate updates has gated exclusive content ...

Sony's idea of "generationless" is child's play compared to what Nintendo achieved with the N64 by locking out gamers from newly released AAA games ...

What will happen is that the next console will phase out the original PS4, but all games will be playable on the PS4 Pro and the PS5. Then three years later PS4 Pro will be phased out, and all games will be played on the PS6 and PS5. This cycle will continue and I imagine they will be using the same architecture for each new console, so BC will be a thing.

We will see half gen leaps from now on from Sony and MS. This will allow people to either save money and skip a console while still being able to play all new games or keep up with the latest versions for top performance. I believe this is what MS means by no more "generations" and Sony seems to be on the same page.

No telling what Nintendo will do. We need to know what the NX is first, but I could see them doing the same thing to keep BC simple. Hard to tell what they are thinking at this point though.
