Well Samsung and Sony for sure; but no-name brands, big-name-turned-no-name brands (let's face it, Panasonic is garbage without their precious Plasma), and LG? No, their upscaling is all garbage.

Let's not forget that consoles typically do post-processing in their scalers to improve the final image.

TV's also tend to introduce input-lag when they are doing upscaling.

And often TV's have a wide-ranging degree of upscaling quality starting from absolutely terrible to semi-decent, quality wise.

The Xbox One S certainly has several real advantages if you are gaming at 4k.

Sony learned with the PS3 that while it is a nice sales driver at 1st have this type of tech becomes a cost drag later on when the special feature becomes available for cheap.

The PS4 Pro has the advantage that the  PS4 already exist. It does not need a non-gaming gimmick to help grow the userbase.

Fact is in a year or 2 4K blu-ray players are going to be dirt cheap and Sony will have sacrificed alot of sales (with a higher price) to have a feature that won't be needed.

PS4 is games 1st, ya it does MLB tv and Netflix, but it already does not do 3D. Sony is sticking by their guns and not adding features that will make it more expensive for people to actually game (cost of admission in this case).

If you look at PC Blu-ray drives, 4k capable drives aren't anymore expensive really. (Many non-4k PC drives just need a firmware update for instance for 4k Blu Ray support.)

Sony had the chance to win the Multimedia game and they dropped the ball, plain and simple...
The Xbox One S is the best console for Multimedia and it's cheaper than the PS4 Pro.

So a summary is that:
Xbox One S:
* Can Play Audio CD's.
* Can Play 4k Blu-Ray.
* Full NTFS support on external media.
* HDMI Passthrough and snapping of video.

Errrr.... ok . But hasn't the Xbox always been the better "multimedia" device?

But which is the better gaming console? I'm really curious to read your reply.

It's as if people just forgot that the PS4 got to where it is today simply from being the better gaming console and nothing else. But now all of a sudden 4k Blu-rays is a killer app? I didn't expect this from you man..... from a lot of people yes, but not you.

$400 seems like an amazing price for this hardware!

Power consumption: Up to 310W

Wow

Thats the power units highest rateing.

You know how you can buy 500watt-1000watt power units for PCs? even if the cpu+gpu you have in your system only use like 200watts while gameing? ofc it varies depending on how much you OC your cpu+gpu, and how many gpus your running, extra hard drives ect.

Same thing here, its better to have a bigger unit for effecieny (less electricy used, because effeciency drops the closer to max you get) and.... better to have and not use, than to need and not have.

I wouldnt be surprised if the PS4 pro uses like 200watts when gameing.

Get ready to see the Scorpio have 300watts used while gameing too, and ship with a 500watts rated PSU.

Even being less powerful than Scorpio, Sony already won the gen as they did with the PS2 despite being the weakest hardware of it's gen.

But I don't like this sudden push to 4K, it would be better to focus on 1080P + 60FPS and let the 4K to the next console gen.

Not having 4k Blu ray seems to be the end of the world.

Not end of the world, but when you think about a Pro/Premium product or service you get some expectations, but as greenmedic88 said on another post, maybe the 4K blu ray market isn't big enough, we don't have those numbers but Sony surely does.

But anyway, I think that part of the problem is when you compare to the Xbox One S, specially because it's not a Pro/Premium product and it does have 4k blu ray people get somewhat confused.

The same argument can be used against the X1S. For a premium gaming console it won't play VR games and it's still weaker than a launch day Ps4.

The slim is essentially a gaming console with so called "premium" media features." I say so called as the 4K player is supposed to be a low end cheap 4K player.

The Pro on the other hand is a premium gaming console with some media features.

yeah cant wait to play those audio CDs on my Next Gen system

Some of us still have sizable Audio disc collections.
And my Receiver for my 7.2 sound system does not have an optical drive, my consoles have typically been used for that task for generations.

And the ironic part is... It really doesn't cost anything to add the support.

Not really. The Playstation 3 won the Multimedia war last generation thanks to it's Blu-ray drive, Microsoft did have the lead for awhile with Streaming, but that didn't last forever.
The Original Xbox had the edge over the Playstation 2 because you could RIP Audio discs to the Hard Drive and play music in the background or in Grand Theft Auto's case use them for the radio.

IMHO, neither the Xbox One or Playstation 4 console is "better" for gaming, it really depends on what games you like to which device you should choose, if you are a massive Halo fan, then the Xbox is a no brainer, if you love Uncharted then Playstation is your only choice.
Though something to keep in mind the Playstation does have the hardware edge which leads to better imagry and performance.

Hopefully my answer satiates your curiosity. :P

There are so many devices now who can play Audio CDs its really not necessary to have it built in, unless Sony actually maked something usefull like BC for PS1 games which they never planned to do in the first place. My PS3 or PC can play and rip audio CDs which in turn i can put the music on a USB stick to be played on the PS4

My online systems: Mac M4 Apple sillicon+16 GB, PC Vega 56+Amd Ryzen+32GB DDR4, Xbox Series X, PS4 Pro, Switch Lite, Playstation Vita TV, PS3, PSP

My retro systems: Wii U, DSi, Xbox, PS2, Dreamcast, N64, PS1, Sega Saturn, Neo Geo AES, SNES, Evercade

For those specs $400 is a good price.

Excactly! Its a great price, hell, AMAZING price for people who don't own a Ps4.

I think some people will be dissapointed who upgrade to this console, however, don't expect it to be like a new console gen, its just a bit better experience.

This worries me. This mid generation thing. Is this how gaming is going to continue to be? I mean, if there's a traditional PS5, where does it fit? Theoretically, this is Sony's answer to Microsoft's One S, but the One S isn't as capable as the Neo, and the Scorpio will be much more capable than the Neo, is Sony going to shoot back with something else that's more capable than Scorpio? I'm just genuinely concerned with the pacing of how consoles are releasing.

The relative gap between the PS4Pro and a Scorpio will be about the same as the gap between an XBO and a PS4 (just reversed). Sony's answer to the One S is the PS4 Slim.

EDIT: @your edit, your math is wrong. 6 Tflops is 1.43 times as much as 4.2 Tflops.

Os not wrong, 6 Tf is 1.8.  Tf more Than 4.2... And yeah, this is kinda worrying since I dont make that kind of money to be buying consoles that often.
