Some of us still have sizable Audio disc collections.
And my Receiver for my 7.2 sound system does not have an optical drive, my consoles have typically been used for that task for generations.
And the ironic part is... It really doesn't cost anything to add the support.

It's as if people just forgot that the PS4 got to where it is today simply from being the better gaming console and nothing else. But now all of a sudden 4k Blu-rays is a killer app? I didn't expect this from you man..... from a lot of people yes, but not you. |
Not really. The Playstation 3 won the Multimedia war last generation thanks to it's Blu-ray drive, Microsoft did have the lead for awhile with Streaming, but that didn't last forever.
The Original Xbox had the edge over the Playstation 2 because you could RIP Audio discs to the Hard Drive and play music in the background or in Grand Theft Auto's case use them for the radio.
IMHO, neither the Xbox One or Playstation 4 console is "better" for gaming, it really depends on what games you like to which device you should choose, if you are a massive Halo fan, then the Xbox is a no brainer, if you love Uncharted then Playstation is your only choice.
Though something to keep in mind the Playstation does have the hardware edge which leads to better imagry and performance.
Hopefully my answer satiates your curiosity. :P
