Imagine the craziness if you could go back in time and post here 2 years ago and tell people that Super Mario for iPhone would be Nintendo's big holiday 2016 title ... lol, people would lose their shit.

I lol'd cuz it's true!

Regarding your comments about mobile revenue and the possibility that NIntendo might focus even more on mobile games on the console games expanse; the more I think about it, the less likely that seems, IF the NX is a hit or a moderate success (I'm talking like 50m HW units sold or something). Zhuge posted some interesting graphs on twitter some days ago, about Nintendo's profits. 40% came from console games and another 40% came from hardware. That's 80% of the total revenue. I highly doubt that their mobile segment will over shadow that. At most it'll be an even split between their traditional revenue stream (HW+SW) and mobile, but I doubt they'll start to favour mobile over their traditional incomes.

Revune is nice, but it doesn't translate directly to profit. Of course game hardware has a high revenue, but Nintendo may make the same actual profit from a single $5 Mario Run download as they do from selling a $300 game system at near cost, even though the game system will account for 60x more revenue.

Hasn't the news already arrived here? Miyamoto mistook the premium price.
The game is free with IAP, it even says so in the official site: http://supermariorun.com/

Well, well, well :D looks like I'm gonna get to play it then! When it comes to android...

Me too
I'll be testing it out next year, just like FE and AC.

FE I might try out, but I'm not all that interested in AC - although, that game could be huuuuge

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

I don't remember whether it was revenue or profit... Maybe it's just me hoping Nintendo won't turn their backs on traditional videogames

Some of the meltdowns in here are hilarious.

You would think the presence of Pokemon Go+ Sun and Moon launching 6 months apart should reassure people that your traditional gaming isn't going anywhere. In fact Pokemon Go boosted the sales of 3DS hardware and software. Be happy Nintendo is about make a few billion and hopefully reinvest it into the NX and their online infrastructure.

So true.

Even Pokemon X/Y and Alpha Sapphire/ Omega Ruby have been selling A LOT lately due to the popularity of Pokemon Go. Lots of people rediscovered the 3ds and its pokemon games due to it.  Who would imagine AS/OR leading the worldwide charts 20 months after its release?

This little IOS game will probably do wonders to promote Mario games

If the NX was at one point intended for holiday 2016, its damn shame it missed that target.

I agree that you lose a lot of coverage by announcing a new console revision the same day as (literally minutes after) iPhone 7 but I don't think Super Mario Runner specifically is going to steal a lot of its exposure.

PS4 Pro seems to get the spotlight on many sites so I think they're fine.

Eurogamer

Gamereactor

Gamesradar

Giant Bomb

IGN

PC Gamer

Polygon

PS4 Pro has just been added to Amazon for preorder. If that does well, I don't think Sony will have many regrets.

1: That was mostly a joke for SuperChunk, that said it was still kind of poor timing. All the sites you listed are game sites, visit most tech sites and it is 4 to 1 Apple articles vs Sony.  Unfortunately for Sony I saw more negative press than good press but that would likely have happened anyway with them not supporting 4k Blu-ray.

2: Too bad really, I'd liked to have seen Sony get all the spotlight, but phones are more popular than video game systems.

3: BTW I don't see anything on the PC Gamer pic you threw up ...

1: But how do you know PS4 Pro would have more than these 1-2 articles on tech sites if it was revealed let's say a week ago?

2: Of course iPhone 7 news is more popular in mainstream media than a console revision. If you expected anything else you were bound to be disappointed.

3: If you have trouble reading the text on the pictures just right click and open in new tab. The PC Gamer article says: "Mass Effect: Andromeda gameplay trailer debuts at Sony's PlayStation Meeting 2016"

1. crystal ball (you should really invest in one if you don't have one of your own) - seems like a bit of a given to me, on a slow news day something like the Sony conference would have gotten more articles.  The writers have to write about something, the sites need content, PS4p competing with much of nothing would have come away with more articles than PS4p competing with a new iPhone for articles. Ultimately we can't know just like in any what if situation but we can make educated guesses.

2. We agree

3. bit of a stretch but ultimately related to the conference.

This supports my point too:  http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=220169
