Forums - Nintendo - Color Splash Producer Discusses Why Paper Mario Moved Away From RPG Elements

That's an awful comparison anyways. But of course radical changes make fans angry at first, is normal, if the game proves to be good then things may change, who knows, we'll see.

Why is it awful? That's what TV shows/Movies do, a lot. Take a core concept. Alters it, for whatever reason, in some way. People hate it. And it starts failing. This series had two entries, without RPG elements. And it's still hated. Majority clearly want it the original way.

Nop, the series has 3. Super Paper Mario is not really an rpg, is a puzzle platformer with some very little rpg elements that were far from the focus and no turn based combats, but is not hated because despite the changes it worked and most people liked it. The only hated was Sticker Star, but that game is weak for way more reasons than the lack of experience after winning a battle, this new game looks way more fun than Sticker Star and the turn based combat makes it more similar to an rpg than SPM ever was. The hate comes from 1 single game.

Their reasoning is beyond flawed. Nintendo made a second Mario RPG when PM was already there for years and now they complain about having two Mario RPG's? And then they decide to change the most beloved Mario RPG? Then why is there no M&L for consoles? Why is it so difficult to keep M&L on handhelds and PM on consoles? Or why can't PM be different on handhelds only? I will never ever understand Nintendo with this. It's ridiculous.

Maybe because their new console is a handheld AND a homeconsole?

Meanwhile.... I miss Super Mario RPG & Paper Mario - TTYD like mario games.
They re just killing their franchise imo.

If you assume the rumors are true, while normally 99% of all rumours turn out to be not true.

how about this, create another mario rpg big and ambitious like Super Mario RPG.

Well at least I know ahead of time of what I will not buy. Very disappointing. If I went into detail it would surely lead to a ban if it made sense or not. Being honest about Nintendo is a hate crime if not a positive comment around this site.

I have said before- few retail/consumer co s treat their customers as poorly as Nintendo

That's too bad. Paper Mario was the superior RPG imo.

That would honestly make me forgive Nintendo for a whole century of disappointing Paper Mario games.
