That's an awful comparison anyways. But of course radical changes make fans angry at first, is normal, if the game proves to be good then things may change, who knows, we'll see.

Why is it awful? That's what TV shows/Movies do, a lot. Take a core concept. Alters it, for whatever reason, in some way. People hate it. And it starts failing. This series had two entries, without RPG elements. And it's still hated. Majority clearly want it the original way.

Nop, the series has 3. Super Paper Mario is not really an rpg, is a puzzle platformer with some very little rpg elements that were far from the focus and no turn based combats, but is not hated because despite the changes it worked and most people liked it. The only hated was Sticker Star, but that game is weak for way more reasons than the lack of experience after winning a battle, this new game looks way more fun than Sticker Star and the turn based combat makes it more similar to an rpg than SPM ever was. The hate comes from 1 single game.
