I can see where the frustration over Nintendo focusing on 3DS versus the Wii U comes from, don't get me wrong. There's been many, many times over the past 20 years where I wish a lot of the effort put into handheld games was put into console games, and not just from Nintendo. I'm just not really seeing why people are upset that Wii U games are being ported to 3DS. And I own both systems. |
Again, it's not so much the literal act of porting Wii U games to the 3DS, so much as what the subtext is.
Obviously, putting games on a console that has sold 60 million, and porting them from a console that has sold less than 14 million, does make financial sense, and even as a Wii U owner, I don't disparage New 3DS owners for getting access to these games.
But from a Wii U owner's perspective, it does look like all the focus is going away from the Wii U. Even if it is justified from a business and financial standpoint, it can leave Wii U owners feeling frustrated.
Also, by putting formerly exclusive Wii U games on the New 3DS, Nintendo seems to be inadvertently discouraging people from buying Wii U's in the future, thus further cementing the impression they're abandoning the system.
