Realistically there's only so much support you can expect for a system that sells this poorly.

The Saturn and Dreamcast and Jaguar and 3DO didn't get more than 4 years of support (in real continuos way). Wii U wasn't going to either.

It's nothing personal. It's simply business, it's like being mad a theater company for pulling a movie out of the theater after 2 weeks because it's bombing and wanting to use that screen for something else.

Besides to be honest there were still a lot of Nintendo games released for the Wii U, and a lot of very good ones. It's not like they Virtual Boy-ed it.

Systems that have trouble getting to even 15 million units sold will be phased out after 3 or 4 years. That's just how it goes in this industry, Nintendo is not a charity, they're a business. The whole "5 years or bust" thing only applies to system's that are actually successful in the first place.

The problem is that Nintendo didn't give even the bare minimum of support to the Wii U.

Thats not fair to say at all. Compared to Sony and MS, Nintendo has released way more games for the WiiU than they have on PS4 and XB1. They also have the 3DS to think about.

They did all that was realistically possible to do with a system that just would not take off sales-wise. I love many Wii U games, but I can't feel betrayed that Nintendo wants to distance itself from an obvious sales disappointment. Besides, the Wii U games being ported to 3DS are very blatantly inferior to the Wii U versions, If both versions released simultaneously, I would have still opted for the superior Wii U version.

Wii U didn't get an exclusive Zelda so they didn't do the bare minimum. And half of the games they released on the Wii U were garbage filler and most of the rest weren't even AAA games.

It is still getting a Zelda. A few recent games have been weak, but half is just silly.

I agree.  Of course, I would have loved to play more third party games on my Wii U.  But, I bought an Xbone to take care of that problem.  Nintendo's first party titles were great, as always.  It does suck that they've basically abandoned the system this quickly.  They can't keep throwing money at it though.

I got tons of enjoyment out of Xenoblade, Kart, both Marios, and Captain Toad.  Those five right there were probably enough to justify the purchase.  I've had lots of fun with other games too.  I'm playing Yoshi right now, and am looking forward to Paper Mario soon.  So, I'm reasonably satisfied.

The only real complaint I have is the lack of a new Zelda title.  BoW should satisfy me there though, so long as they don't put extra features in the NX version.

Releasing an unambitious library was all that they can do?

Depends on how you view it. :P

It's all subjective at this point. Some think Splatoon doesn't do anything special, I think it has allowed me to play an intuitive online shooter experience thanks to the gamepad and the features it presented. The young devs (with the help of Miyamoto) truly wanted to do this kind of project and their efforts showed. I'm sure fans like how Captain Toad and Nintendo Land were able to utilize the game pad that makes puzzles and mini games, respectively, fun and different from others. And with all those directs and articles that Sakurai has been a part of, I couldn't imagine he lacked ambition in creating Smash Bros. or Kid Icarus even before they got released.

Of course there are exceptions, but the overall impression is lackluster.
