Forums - Nintendo - Emily Rogers: Nintendo still plans to support Nintendo 3DS through 2018

According to Emily Rogers, the 3DS will continue to get software up until 2018. This tidbit of information was added here and there was discussion on the other bulletpoints in the Cross D-pad thread, but I felt this deserved its own thread. Anyway, this wouldn't surprise me at all. For example, Black 2 and White 2 came out 7/8 years after the DS launched. Of course, this time around I expect smaller titles and some localizations rather than games from important franchises.

Does she even mention her sources? Also, I don't feel very confident when she says that it could change, which means that if she's wrong it's because the facts changed. Also, she was wrong about there being a female Link in Breath of the Wild, so she does not have 100% accuracy.

Honestly I kinda hope they dont.
Just put everything into in the NX.
3DS is too dated to share games with the NX, and I rather they focus on makeing the NX have a really fantastic library.

Leave the 3ds to 3rd party and indies.

This is good for people who were bitching of Nintendo dropping support for the 3DS.

Pocky Lover Boy!

I expect this largely means they'll continue producing the device. Perhaps there'll be more 3DS software if NX bombs, to bring in some money, but I doubt we'll see meaningful software support after 2017. New releases will largely end up being localised titles. We'll see some evidence of that trend in tomorrow's Direct.

3DS might continue to get software from third partys maybe, but definitely not from Nintendo (besides Gamefreak with it's mind of it's own), as that would defeat the purpose of the NX (all games on one platform), and they'd be competeing with themselves (NX portable or hybrid vs. 3DS). Nintendo's recent 3DS offerings definitely don't hint at further support, they've already used up all their big ammo, and the sales are only going to keep dropping from here.

I'm sure the 3ds direct will enlighten us... maybe.

The new ip launches next year for 3ds .

Another one of those world class leaks, or she seen a dedicated 3ds direct and is making it up. Great to see she's giving herself an out too by saying the plans could change. Would want to have proof she's full of it. (Though we have several instances where she was completely wrong).

Why do we listen to her? About anything?

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.
