Forums - Sony - PS4 Slim Review

Sony definitely caught Microsoft off gaurd with the Neo. The slim models show that Sony had a game plan and Microsoft had to react. Now Sony can go into another holiday with a more powerful console that is $100 cheaper.

The distinction of 1080p vs 4K on the PS4 2000 and the PS4 Neo will make marketing very easy for Sony this holiday. I can't wait to see the numbers for October through December with PS4 2000, PS4 Neo, and PSVR. SIE should have the best revenue and profit quarter in the history of the brand.

Common Sony. :/

I believe that will depend on the price.

No need for any of the 4K stuff, 4K Tvs already do all the work besides play UHD Blu Rays......which pretty much no one ever buys, most still don't even buy Blu Rays. 30 dollar movies is a rip off atm and no one I know are buying these UHD discs lol
A slim should be made cheaper for new customers, and pointless 4K support that Tvs do already....just makes it more expensive

I've bought over 500 blu-rays, and would usually be jumping onto the next format. However I agree, 4k blu-ray is a rip off atm. Most, nearly all, of them are made from 2K cinema masters and are almost twice as expensive as the blu-ray version (after a month, blu-rays come down in price, 4K UHD so far do not). Early blu-rays were not perfect either, single layer mpeg2 encode, yet they still blew DVD out of the water. Plus thanks to the format war they were a lot more affordable. This time you get the same master with less compression artifacts and HDR enhancements at a premium price.
The Revenant was to be my first 4K UHD disc (actual 4K master), yet at $35 vs $15, nevermind.

I will say it is a curious choice not to add in 4k support. If they are doing a revision, why not add it in and not let MS have any marketing advantage? Most 4k HDR bluray players from amazon seems to be around the same price so those who want a 4k bluray player will look into it.

I doubt it will make much of a difference overall but its just an odd choice imo.

Because they will be launching the Neo shortly after with 4K support for a little more than a 2tb X1S. They will be able to out price and out spec both prior x1 models.

Well... Saying it will be a little more than the x1s is rumored at best... And its not like x1s can't lower its price to... I doubt 4k compatibility drives up the cost of the hardware very much.

I have to imagine that this will most likely be sold for $249. I wouldn't pay $299 for that when the Xbox One S is selling for that price and it includes HDR and 4K capabilities.

The Xbox One S is weaker so technically this should be more expensive.

And Sony is most likely going to win when it comes to Slim price and sales.

I'm sure 4K players don't come cheap. Unlike BR players, an average 4K player will cost you around $300 at retail.

Can't argue about cost being rumours, but saying MS will drop the price is also speculation.

What can't be argued is, the PS4 will be the only console with or without a slim, that will be by far the cheapest entry into VR gaming. As a gaming device, it will leave the X1 in the dust. Not only is it more powerful, but you will be able to game in VR.
