I think they want to provide a next-gen experience on many levels. A fresh take on gaming. I don't think we should restrict our thoughts to one "gimmick". Good Nintendo systems offer multiple innovations.

SNES offered 16-bit processing, thousands of colours, synthetic symphonic music, four face buttons, triggers and mode-7 3D. N64 had true polygons, 4 controllers and analog sticks. Wii had motion-sensing, ir aiming, and the virtual console.

I think NX is going to offer AR and a new take on motion sensing gaming that will incorporate next-gen Wii-motes, a motion-sensing camera and possibly AR. I think they will combine this with tablet portability and the option of connecting the SCD to allow for traditional core experiences on the TV.

I think they are going to try to repeat Wii success with an affordable, accessible, innovative system. I think the SCD twist is an attempt to placate the core gamers, the 50+ million or so who bought the Wii when it was fresh tech but then ditched it for PS360.

It's not really "innovative" anymore when it's a 10+ year old idea that already fizzled out and there are motion controllers for every other console now.

Having some form of motion control is fine, every system has it in some form, but if Nintendo thinks that's going to drive hardware sales like 2006 ... they are sadly, sadly mistaken.

So far the NX doesn't really seem to have any new ideas. This thing is going to need to be able to run Android apps or it won't find a market IMO. Kids are not going to carry around two devices and they're not giving up their Android apps.

This is why I kept my Wii U Pro controller and Wii motes when I recently traded in the Wii U and games (please don't hate on me) Got over $400 bucks for it all. I just have a feeling they will be supported by the NX.

Hey! They got SONY on my amiibo! Wait a minute. Two great gaming tastes that game great together!

I basically agree that it is a console with a very open set of functional capability.

- i haz portabilitiy
- i haz home powah
- i am one with digital BC
- bring your wii / wiiu accessories and let's play
- etc

I don't see any VR functionality. That isn't Nintendo. They won't jump into this extreme new tech. Personally, I see VR never really taking off and going away similar to 3D gaming.

I hope people dont keep their expectations high on this one.

The "gimmick" is that it's portable basically from the sounds of it with a few extra things thrown in (aka: the swiss army knife approach)

Hum, I always doubt something really original can come to existence, but often I am proved wrong.
In the WiiU case, I was impressed, bought the thing just to play ZombiU. And to this day is one of my favorite WiiU games, also Scribblenauts was pretty fun.
But overall, the WiiU was a huge disapointment, to me at least.
I still remember dreamming about playing Alien Colonial Marines as a horror survival, which Alien Isolation also prove that was a silly dream anyways.
Even Fatal Frame failed in my opinion, falling into the "big breasts, small talent" type of design of late KoeiTecmo games, which is a huge fall from grace from the 3 first games of the series.
I am VERY interested in the NX, but I will not buy it on launch because Nintendo has a lot to prove before I fully trust them again.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

How was Fatal Frame V worse than 1 and 3 exactly?

The question is if this is the right way to do things.

Makeing a hybrid thats as good as 2 things (hybrid & home console), that are usually sold seperately, is hard enough.

Tossing a ton of other stuff in there as well, increases the risk that it ends up failing at both.

Im not sure just tossing aton of features into something, is a smart approach.

Look at the Wii U.

They spent 80$+ on the gamepad (when the others spend like 15$ on their controllers), and barely found any reason for that "feature" and it basically killed their console sales.

This could be Nintendo trying to do too much at once.

Don't get too excited. While I'm interested what they come up with, Nintendo tend to try and keep things cheap and make money on their consoles. I think they learnt their lesson from having an expensive controller bumping up the price of the Wii U.
