That's a misconception, Nintendo never had a hand in great Rare games. They were pretty hands off on their direction and Goldeneye mp is a proof of that.

Their relations started to strain when Nintendo wanted to be more intrusive in their game development. Perfect Dark was the start of it.

Nope not a misconception a prime example is Banjo Tooie, by Rare's own admission they wanted to make the game like Nuts and Bolts back then but Nintendo shelved the idea and made them make a game more like the original. Guess which game is like a lot more by fans, fact is Nintendo were always involved in their development it's when Rare were given freedom when problems started because projects started running into problems and extended development time costing money leading to Nintendo having to step back in to keep them in check.

MS never knew this and bought them only to find out that the studio was problematic when not being babysit, MS got the shaft.

Btw, Goldeneye was done entirely without Nintendo supervision and they included mp aspect with Nintendo in the dark until the last minute.

From what I've seen, and it's probably becoming fact, Rare has been dying under Microsoft.

Just about every Rare game published by Microsoft has been a commercial failure, and the games' decline in quality has driven many important members of the company (like David Wise and Kevin Bayliss) to quit.

Even Rare Replay, a game with many beloved Rare games included on it, hasn't even sold the required 1 million units to be a success.

If only Nintendo hadn't kept their head up their ass and bought 100% into Rare. We'd even have GoldenEye and Diddy Kong Racing on Virtual Console by now.

No and everyone agreeing with you probably doesn't know the history of Rare. Talent were leaving Rare before MS bought them. MS let Rare do whatever they wanted initially, so it wasn't the case of limited creativity by suits. Those games unfortunately weren't as good as their previous games. Grabbed by the Ghoulies, Perfect Dark Zero, Kameo. Games that ranged from mediocre to okay.

No doubt. They had such a great synergy with one one another.

God damn misreading the poll question, I am now one of the 10 No votes... sad times, I make up a portion of a poll which makes VGchartz look silly. (I guess because I clicked it based on reading Without instead of With I am silly!)

But yeah while we will never know what Rare would have produced had they stayed with Nintendo, the Rare games which came from them under the MS wing were all pretty lackluster, that perfect dark Zero port is the best way to play that game according to a recent digital foundry video though so I guess we can at least be grateful for one amazing X360 port of their N64 FPS title.

I actually think their decline began before they left Nintendo; their final game for Ninty, Starfox Adventures, was pretty bad and lacked the quality of their prior works, impressive graphics aside.

Frankly, I don't think Rare has made a single good game since the N64.

Totally disagree.  Loved Kameo, Also think that Viva Piñata was probably one of the best games to come out of Rare.  Hell even the Kinect Sports were probably the most polished and well-made game for that failed device.  Sea of Thieves looks like a lot of fun and I cannot wait to check it out.  Even the Remix Banjo was a very well made game and fun.  The problem is that these games did not resonate with the audience on the Xbox probably as much as they would have with Nintendo.

Personally none of Rare's games have stood out or caught my attention ever since MS owned them. Loved their Nintendo games.

Could it be because it was rare to see Rares logo on the box perhaps?

Perfect Dark Zero has it but neither of their best selling X360 games do

The games which do feature the logo almost hide it in their design

Just in comparison to the way it was on SNES/N64 games featuring the company

Just a thought but might explain the lack of the Rare titles on the Xbox machines popping out, because they either lacked or had somewhat hidden logos of the company which the earlier games wore as a badge of quality in the box.

I know of the games Rare made for MS and it's not because of not seeing the logo or anything, but because of the games itself.   Perfect Dark Zero and Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts were probably the only Rare games that came close to getting my attention since the buy-out.

Kameo isn't a bad X360 game either, it's not on the same level as N64 Rare titles, but it isn't bad.

My friend has that game and says its decent, maybe i'll borrow it from him and give it a try.  Thanks! :)

Yes but Rare were on their way down during the end of the N64 as many key employees had left around that time. I have no doubt that they still would have been better off with Nintendo but I don't think they would have maintained their excellence.
