Part of the fanbase assumes so, just because he doesn't have a canon love interest like most of the Fire Emblem MCs. Personally, I just assume he's indifferent towards sex in general. None of his interactions with Soren or Ranulf were openly romantic, and so I have no reason to assume they were any different off-screen. Same goes for Ike/Mia, even though I ship the hell out of that one.
I suppose Prium being confirmed to be Ike's descendent and not Mist's confirms that he had a biological child at that some point. Though I guess that's not necessarily confirmation of anything.
OT: I think the fanbase likes to look for things that aren't there, kind of like the Ike example above. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing to take seriously either. Crack-shipping is a fun hobby for a lot of people.

Yeah, but half of the characters have canon ships where they come from. Mario, Link, Cloud, Marth etc. Why use characters and make them so OOC?

Ganon is the one character I've never seen a Yaoi ship with. Yes, I've seen a Wario X Captain Falcon ship.

While Captain Falcon X Samus makes no sense since the only connection they have is that they are both bounty hunters, I disagree with Snake X Samus. They have similar backstories. They have a similar age, and they both hide in the both inconspicuous. I can go on and on on what I think about this ship.

Because a lot of people don't play games like Fire Emblem, etc, and thus their only interaction with those characters is in Smash. As for Mario and Link... well, those are kind of special cases (people who are likely to do "shipping" are going to do "special" things with the biggest names in gaming).
The smash fanbase is obssesed by nature. The gamr is no longer a fun party game, now everything is boring because competition.

Actually no, while there is tolerance to a degree, it is still something of a thing over there.
