Still aint got the update :(

The update came out.... fuck me what a dissappointment ,, the amount of Candy that a Pokemon gives is depending on how good they are, so the starter Pokemon give you 1 candy per 3km walked.... considering you need 25 candies to go from Bulba to Ivysaur work it out, that is 75km of walking to evolve one moderately decent Pokemon.
My Snorlax gives 1 candy per 5km of walking, considering he is at 2016cp and requires 3 for a power up that means I need to walk 15KM to go a single upgrade for him, absolutely insane.
If Niantic or... anyone thinks this update (that is pretty much all the update adds) is going to get millions of people back playing Pokemon Go they have to be off their heads on drugs.

The good thing is that this upgrade will let me have a Blastpise eventually

Considering that Squirtle is one of the Pokemon who require 3km walked to get a candy bonus if you have your starter Pokemon without finding any extra guys in eggs or out walking you'll need 125 candy to go from Squirtle > Blastoise (Blastpiss would be an amazing pokemon btw) But yeah 125 candies could take you 375KM of walking to get for the starter Pokemon to evolve fully (125x3km) it is just an insane ask from Niantic again turning the game into a chore.
Can't see the buddy system getting very many back into the game in its current form, I've said before the things which would get people back
1 - a refresh button for gps to kick back in, without having to restart the app
2 - a low spec mode using 2d sprites instead of the 3d models which some lower end phones have issues with
NEW
3 - a chance at getting something special from Pokestops, can literally be 1 in 1000 chance but just of getting something like an incubator, some pokecoins, a lucky egg, just something to change things up some tiny bit, the game currently is just walk back and forth finding Pokemon and once a day go and collect a few gyms for coins, there is no change to what happens, a stop either has potions or balls, the tiny chance of something cool from a stop could make people fire up the app again while out walking.
4 - updates.... the appraiser came in just about a month ago, the buddy system took far too long to be created, I mean if there was a feature like trading or trainer battling to be added to the game how long can we be expected to wait? Months... years? especially with winter coming to the Northern hemisphere soon, Niantic are going to be shedding numbers from the game faster than they can find new regions to launch the game in. Needs updates to come out faster and be more in line with things the game legit needs rather than just junk like the appraiser.

Finally got the buddy update. I can finally start powering up my snorlax, although it'll take forever to do. I guess instead I should work on getting candies for the pokemon who are only a few away from evolving...

Here is the full listing of which pokemon need how much walking to reward a candy.

While some bits on there make some Sense like Snorlax being a slow one to gain candy... having to walk 15km for a single upgrade for the Pokemon is just nuts, considering he can't be used as a Gym defender while you are doing the walking, at all.
Also strange about the list is where Tauros, Farfetch't and Kangaskhan are in comparison to Mr.Mime, I guess us Europeans are known to enjoy a good walk so we have to go further for our Pokemons candy, what a mess.
But yeah I think I'll be dumping in a shit Magikarp as my buddy along with most other users and start walking my way towards a Gyarados, because even though he needs 400 candies at 400KM to get them in comparison to something like Squirtle which needs 125 candy but ends up at 375 for the complete starter Pokemon rather than a powerful Gyarados.... never thought I would consider a Magikarp a buddy but what you gonna do I guess. Almost at level 27 now and over the 1m exp collected mark, great get fit idea, terrible game though.
(also a touch counter productive in the logic that if you walk somewhere you should have a candy... I mean... is that a good message to send out?)

I figured it used the egg list as well.
It is pretty crazy that it can take a long time to work with a single pokemon, but I can see why they designed it that way. It's not meant to be the main means to get candy, but as a support. While you're trying to get candy for certain pokemon, chances are you'll encounter that pokemon in the wild or in an egg, so those few candy can make all the difference. That's what I plan to do, since I have many pokemon that lack just 2 or 3 candy, and are quite rare for me.
If getting candy through the buddy system was made too easy, that would take some of the challenge and main purpose of the game out of it. At least, that's how I see it.

But you're looking at it from the point of view of someone who plays the game a lot still, I mean the buddy system could have been used to entice those who installed it but got annoyed with the chore element of the game to come back if it was made very rewarding, hearing reports that over 80% of the players have quit the game should be fairly alarming for Niantic but stuff like a system to evolve starters by walking almost 400km is not going to get your average casual player to pick up the app again. it just wont.
As for the eggs = KM, Mr Mime can't come from an Egg, only be caught in EU lands, the same way that tauros, khangaskan and farfetch't are the pokemon for US, AU and Asia respectfully, so the fact that Mr Mime is a 5k walk but the others are 3 is just weird, like I said... maybe Eu people are known for enjoying a long walk more than US and co haha.

Yeah, that is true. It's not something that's going to bring the masses back, especially with how much work is needed for a small pay off.
Though I think it is possible for the exclusive pokemon to hatch from eggs. They're listed as possible pokemon in the hatching list, and I've had a friend tell they got a Mr. Mime from a egg.

Thanks for the picture, guess I'll be changing Squirtle for Pikachu (5 candy untill a Raichu) or Magikarp (Already have a Magikarp from an egg and 100 candy)
I know a place where I can get lots of Charmander(Already have a 1800 Charizard) but I have caught just one Bulbasaur and like 3 Squirtles not counting the one I got from an Egg. In my City Growlith appears a lot so I have like 5 or 6 good Arcanine and I can make like 6 more
