Forums - Microsoft - Xbox To Require Sign In Every 5 Years To Maintain Gamertag

Yeah I do realise that and I still think it's stupid. I'd be sickened if I lost my psn name.

As I said, PC logins count in. If you can't take the effort to sign into your account, then clearly you don't care enough to continue using it.

I know this.  But if you were one of the many consumers who don't actively read gaming news or missed this news you might not realise you have to.

A huge percentage of 360 owners converted to the ps4 and if the xb2 rebounds next gen a lot of them will be switching back.

If I had an awesome name or a name I really liked on xbox I'd be sickened they took it off me.

And if you didn't use that "awesome name" for over 5 years then it's no big deal if you lose it.

this is a none issue... seriously...

its not a big deal why has MS to play the Nanny all the time? This is another restriction that no one asked for tbh

We need an organised consumer movement to stick it to Microsoft once and for all. Because if we do not complain now, they'll screw us over even harder in the future.

i got a great idea, lets all make a petition to boycott microsoft!

Glad I abandoned that sinking ship.

I LOVE ICELAND!

I made accounts for my sistersa while back. Forgot their passwords/email addresses, though.

They barley play anymore but it would be awesome to get those profiles back. We played Kinect Sports Rivals a couple of weeks ago and I couldn't log them in. I wonder if it's been that long since we played!

OK. I swear. I SWEAR, that in the past, MS had much more strict requirements as to how much time could pass between sign-ins. Or maybe it was time elapsed once an account went silver. All I know is, I was COKTOE on the original Xbox. A year went by after I let my account lapse. I bought a 360, and my tag was unretrievable. So I became COKTOE 360. It was something I heard others mention as well.

I know that League of Legends does something similar. I hadn't played in a long time, and I got an email that said I needed to sign in or lose my name. I signed in, played one match.

Seems like a good idea.

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

Sounds harsh but look at the bright side. Those accounts sitting in limbo taking up your favourite names will be accessible to us when the time comes.

5 years is almost an entire console generation. If you dont plan on using your account for that long than there shouldn't be a problem.

If people didn't mind jumping consoles for a gen, they can live with a new gamertag.

Frankly, loging into your profile on web browser should be enough to save your gamertag. Just do that every 4 years if necessary.
