Forums - Nintendo - A biased review: Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE

It's great to see it getting positive reviews all around.  Each time I read one I grow intrigued but after a few videos I have to accept it isn't for me.

Glad to see another RPG on WIi U finally and that people are enjoyng it.

Wow this is quite a positive review. Hope this game is selling well. I'll need to look into this game more than I have been.

Think I would like it? I was excited when it was announced, but then they showed what looked like a j pop love fest and lost interest...

You are known to have bad taste, so this isn't easy to answer.

J-pop only makes up for a very small part of it, so a short cutscene with singing here and there shouldn't be a turnoff. Like I mentioned in the review, the introductions to chapters are quite lengthy, so if you don't like it when games throw ~20 minute chunks of story at you, it can be annoying. But after that initial hurdle you get to play for a few hours with only small bits of story inbetween, so there's more than enough time that can be spent on doing what you want to do. There is no gameplay that involves practicing for a show, so you aren't going to play a rhythm game or anything like that.

Can we skip entirely the J-pop scenes?

This game is legitimately my current GotY. I loved Uncharted but I expected that to be fantastic; this, I wasn't expecting at all.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

Cutscenes can be skipped, dialogue can be fast-forwarded. Almost all of the J-pop is presented in anime cutscenes, so they are very easy to identify and skipping them doesn't skip other story portions.

Clues for how to progress the story are on the map and on the Gamepad which features a smartphone-like communication app that has a dedicated main story section. Even if you skipped everything, you would still know what to do next.

Thanks. Sounds good, guess I'll give a chance soon.

I'd play it but the weeaboo is a little too strong.

My main issue with JRPGs is the whole in-your-face Japanese, so I don't know. Same reason I think large percentage of JRPGs for the modern consoles are horrid.

On the other hand, I am guilty of liking Tales.

I would never have expected you to like a game like this so much, looks really good I will get it soon.

Buy it new so you can support the developers, please.

It really is one of the best JRPG's I've ever played and I've played a lot.

Yeah, TMS is an excellent game. Very entertaining, great value.
I bought the collector´s edition, with the CD, artbook and stickers. Very nice material.

Nice to hear that the game is good. I'm sold. I will buy it when i'm done with killing all dragons in Skyrim :).
