Forums - Gaming - Hideo Kojima believes 'massive, long games will become a thing of the past'

Interpretation: Death Stranding is short.

The PS5 Exists.

I think its naive to claim that the market for long games (or any other market, really) will just dissapear. People will always have different tastes.

I don't think so. If games were to go shorter that would mean no more $60 games which companies want the price to be at. Also me and alot of people don't like short games period.

It really depends on what type of gamers you're trying to reach. Gamers who are always doing something, always on the move, going to work, going out, you're going to want to focus on smaller, bite sized games like Nintendo has done since the Gameboy. If you're targeting gamers who have more time, or want to spend more time on big, large, engrossing games, large games is the way to go, giving you more bang for your buck.

I honestly think that eventually, smartphones will overtake Nintendo hardware as they become more malleable with USB controllers, proprietary OSes, and HMDI out. Gaming is about to change in some way, but I'm going to continue to support games of bite sized and large size.

kojima you're wrong, bro!

I believe it.

My gaming sessions nowadays are about 2 hours for RPG's and shorter for everything else. I got to end of SO5 on 2 hour play sessions. My sessions for MGS5 were about 1 1/2 to 2. Just Cause 3 was similar to MGS. I dont have all day sessions anymore. Handhelds are like an hour a session. I also lost interest in "forever games". I want RPG's to be no more 40 hours, but I am fine with 20-30. Games like DMC and NG like 10-13. I want games to be like SNES. Quick to beat hard to master.

My gaming sessions are also 1 1/2-2hr sessions.

But i will take a $60 game with 40-50hrs of content over one with 6-12hrs of content anyday. And i detest online only games or games with 3-6hr campaigns with online to pad the content value.

If a game lasts just 10-20hrs, then for it to be worth $60 for me, that gsme better really be worth it. Or i jist wait till it gets its first price drop since i don't buy used games.

I think he's right. Most people can't finish their games because they are too long. I prefer short games (around 4 hours maximum) and I welcome this change. I can't imagine how an adult have time to finish a 60 hours-long game.

He has been saying this for a long time. It's not new.

I still don't think it's gonna happen. Games like Skyrim and the Witcher prove that they aren't going to go away anytime soon.

That is beyond the point.

The point is: What makes the most money?

If anything that is an argument to the opposite. Selling a game in bite sizes will lead to those same people that don't finish games to only buy a quarter of a game before they put it down. With the current model they would pay all 4 quarters wether they finish it or not. The second method yeilds better returns.

So, i don't think he is right at all.

If I enjoy a game, I want it to be long, not short.
