It really depends on what type of gamers you're trying to reach. Gamers who are always doing something, always on the move, going to work, going out, you're going to want to focus on smaller, bite sized games like Nintendo has done since the Gameboy. If you're targeting gamers who have more time, or want to spend more time on big, large, engrossing games, large games is the way to go, giving you more bang for your buck.
I honestly think that eventually, smartphones will overtake Nintendo hardware as they become more malleable with USB controllers, proprietary OSes, and HMDI out. Gaming is about to change in some way, but I'm going to continue to support games of bite sized and large size.
