Calling every console "a nintendo".
Video games make people dumb/violent.
"Don't you have something better to do ?"

So much this. Ive heard many people call consoles" a nintendo" recently.

Pokemans are my favorite.
Pretty much anything from that series mispronounced is great, from bulbachu, to jigglypoof

When ever I see video games in media and despite playing a current console (can tell by controllers) the game sounds like an 80s arcade cabinet with "pew pew" sounds and the actors convey playing games by wildly gesticulating and button mashing.

This representation is, in part, what makes having conversations with people who don't play games about games challenging. It is views as a lesser medium for children or "man children" because cannot conceive that a video game could provide a rich experience on par with television, film, or literature.

"Nintendo is for kids" is the biggest offender, followed by "Why don't you buy a "real" console?".

Edit: Not really something that's said, but I hate when people write Mario with an accent (Mário). Ugh.

To be honest, I use to hate it when people said "Nintendo is for kids", but frankly, it is.  They try from time to time to give us a game that is made for adults, but really, most of their games are for kids, but it's not a bad thing, it's great kid stuff, timeless things that adults can enjoy too. Like a good pixar movie.

but you can't look at the amiibos or this http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2016/07/nintendo_announces_big_plans_for_san_diego_comic-con

And think : "well, Nintendo is for everyone", no, it's primarily aimed at childrens.

Yeah, I see where you're coming from, especially with the Pixar comparison. That's what makes Nintendo great imo, being able to cater to everyone. The thing is, while they certainly aim at children, most of their fanbase aren't kids. Most kids nowadays are either playing mobile games or GTA on their Xbox/PS and haven't grown up with Nintendo games. And amiibo... well, I'm sure lots of parents buy them for their children, but I'm pretty sure most adults just buy them for themselves =P

I'm not saying kids should be the only one playing and enjoying them. I enjoy them. But well, if you look at any Nintendo, at an aisle in a store, their website, anything, of course you think it's for kids. It would be weird to think otherwise.

another example is Adventure Time, I love adventure Time, but if someone sees anything about the show, without actually seeing a few episodes, they'll say, it 's for kids, and they would be right in the sens that number one target is kids.

Here anyone that isn't an active gamer thinks Playstation is a synonym for "console". So people say to me "you sad loser, a grown man just playing your Playstation all night" I get offended because it's Xbox I'm gaming with damnit!

Nah, I don't really mind it :)

Exact opposite here, everything is a "Xbox". I don't really like the term "gamer", it seems like a lot of people who don't play video games use that term as an insult or in a mocking tone. But being a "movie-goer" or "comic book geek" is ok for some reason.

Waste of time.

Waste of money.

Pls.

Video games cause violence
Video games are sexist

Worst one:
Video games should include everyone and make a happy environment

It s a game. Goddamnit people. No one cares about ethnicities and diversity in games. We just want to play and have fun. Having diversity is a cool bonus, but it isn't needed.

The assumption that gaming is somehow less educational/social/healthy behaviour than, say, reading a book.

I saw 'PC gaming' mentioned as a category in a study about worrying teenage behaviours the other day. Other categorys were: Alcoholism, hard drug abuse, smoking, unprotected sex, and internet/social media addiction. The study showed a considerable regression in alcohol- and drugabuse as well as smoking in teens in favor of girls more heavily using social media and boys turning to PC gaming.

Now, my reaction to that would have been: while responsible use of social media is important and should be tought it is awesome that people would rather play games than take drugs. They thought the trend was worrying.

When people claim they could beat me on my "TV game thing"

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”
