Yeah, as others have stated, it was just some proposition from a guy. Not a company wide goal, but Kimishima recognized it as something that they should at least try.

The dude (whomever he was) thought the Wii brand was that strong. This tells me a lot about his way of thinking. This was obviously a businessman who was looking only to the total sales and wasn't sensible to the consumer feelings. He was definitely oblivious to how the Wii brand, and Nintendo's support of the console, was perceived after the first few years.

strange prediction considering the Wii U is not particularly similar to the Wii in design. I'm not sure how they thought a big tablet controller would attrack the casuals anyway near a gimmicky motion control wand would.

if anything the Wii U controller is more suited for the extremely hardcore who want to do a million things at once on different screens
