The dude (whomever he was) thought the Wii brand was that strong. This tells me a lot about his way of thinking. This was obviously a businessman who was looking only to the total sales and wasn't sensible to the consumer feelings. He was definitely oblivious to how the Wii brand, and Nintendo's support of the console, was perceived after the first few years.
