Forums - Gaming - Call of Duty: Roman Wars - The Story of the lost CoD

Eight years ago, you almost got to play a Call Of Duty set in ancient Rome. A game featuring battle elephants trampling soldiers, a playable Julius Caesar and first-person sword combat. Activision liked the idea, the Call of Duty: Roman Wars demo impressed, and it got as far as the desk of CEO Bobby Kotick before a mixture of studio stubbornness and fears of over-saturating the brand consigned this lost game, ironically, to history.

Good it never saw the light of day. Call of Duty is a shooter franchise not Ryse

lol over saturating the brand
That's a good one

FEAR OF OVER-SATURATING THE BRAND??

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

That could have been pretty cool

Pathetic reasoning as well. Don't want to oversaturate the COD brand.... give it a different name and make it a new IP then, it's not fucking difficult.

Omfg that's comedy gold!

Well now For Honor is coming which is basically that.

but there are no legionaries in For Honor :c

Imho it would have been too far of a stretch, while it would have brought some fresh air to the CoD series in the end yes, it would have been just a name that means nothing put onto a totally different game just to push 4/5M sales...

We got Ryse instead, and soon God of War.

What an absolutely dumb idea. Why would you attach the Call of Duty name to a Roman Warfare game? It's not a CoD game give it a different bloody name if you want to make it.

Next thing you know they'll be doing Need for Speed: Horseback Racing.

Its already over saturated, evert yr it comes out, I'd have played the fuck out of this.
