Forums - Microsoft - LIVE On PC Is Free.

Xbox one gamers foot the bill on PC which is bullshit. Microsoft knows it and goes through with it anyway because it's about spreading the Xbox app (if they already have a PC).

I'm cool with not paying for a stupid subscription on PC

This.

The practice of putting a paywall on both PSN and XBL is horrible so I'm glad MP is free on PC.

Its too bad console only gamers accepted it as a norm and well here we are. It was pretty obvious that Sony followed MS's footsteps to implement a paywall - they have a new source of revenue coming in now - I wouldnt be surprised if Nintendo follows for their next gen system.

we made it the norm?

Nope. The only service Sony is giving that is multiplatform is psnow for older games. You have to pay for that. Windows live was applied on Windows and PC gamers flat out ignored it. Microsoft learned from that day forward that you cannot force people to pay for online on open is that has competition like steam on it. Whatever happens now with live on PC is definitely being paid for by Xbox one gamers.

You seem to not understand that whatever Xbox One gamers pay goes to Microsoft's pockets, not to develop or make better any Microsoft ecosystem, including PC. The notion that MS's will use Gold subscription income to make Live on PC a better place is as absurd as saying Playstation players contribute to make a better PS ecosystem by paying for PS+ or that Blizzard actively improves WoW with the fee income of the game. xD

Yes. Console players made it a norm when MS charged for MP when the Xbox360 came out and Sony saw the potential to weed out more cash - so they implemented it as well for the PS4.

The original Xbox already had a fee, though. Xbox has always had an online fee.

Exclusives are the bread and butter of a console.

Take into consideration that not only are the Xbox exclusives like Gears of War is moving over to Windows, but you can play them without Live subscription. Does this answer your question?

I was talking about paying to play online, not console exclusives.

I will say this again to be perfectly crystal clear; How does paying to play online on PC keep the Xbox One entirely 100% viable and relevant, how does one group that rejected the online scheme keep a system they weren't into alive and well?.

Well...   Sam's Club had sales of $57.157 billion in FY 2014.[5] It reported a 0.3% sales increase in 2014, 4.1% in 2013, and 8.4% sales increase in 2012. This is significantly higher growth than Walmart U.S. stores, which did not have higher than 2% growth since 2010.[5]

Do we have any data on every other global retail store outlets around the world versus this one store that charges you before you buy?. I'm sure the results would be telling at one point.

Sam's Club has about the same revenue as Tesco, slightly lower revenue than Target. About half the revenue of Amazon, but then again, Amazon are walking down that membership path with Prime, they've already locked certain games behind an Amazon Prime wall. And Amazon isn't just a retailer, they have other stuff providing revenue as well.

U fink Amazon would want to buy Xbox when Microsoft decides to sell it?

Huh? I never said anything about Ms selling Xbox... I was comparing Sam's Club's revenue with Amazon.

It still allows for others that haven't locked down and gone the exact same route to stay ahead though, the overall notion is that 7 billion don't entirely buy into paying up first to access a store.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.
