I'm not that much into all these gaming server stuff nowadays so excuse my ignorance.
But isn't the difference that console online servers are provided by Microsoft for the Xbox where as the PC online servers are mostly custom servers made by random people?
There are obviously exceptions like Sim City, Diablo 3, The Devision and so on where it aims for MMO.

My main issue with it are Microsofts own games on PC that have crossplatform multiplayer with XBO.

Forza Horizon 3 for example, multiplayer will be free on PC but need GOLD on XBO, when both systems have the exact same game, playing on the same servers with the same playerbase.

Microsofts Play Anywhere titles should be exempt from needing GOLD.

Everyone on one side will be ok with it and everyone on another side won't be ok with it.

Then if Sony thows all exclusives on PC like people said they should on another thread and make online free on PC:

Everyone on one side will be ok with it and everyone on another side won't be ok with it.

PC gamers will keep using Steam and Other store fronts popping in and pointing out they not only play online for free, they also bought the game for 30% less on preorder.

:)

l <---- Do you mean this glitch Gribble?  If not, I'll keep looking.

I am on the other side of my sig....am I warm or cold?

I fully understand your argument and think so, too.

What about Diablo 3? Those server are managed by Blizzard and it's free on PC. Do you have to pay on XBO to play it?

Intel Core i7 8700K | 32 GB DDR 4 PC 3200 | ROG STRIX Z370-F Gaming | RTX 3090 FE| Crappy Monitor| HTC Vive Pro :3

The increased profits from a huge new market to sell exclusive games to probably offers losses from no xbl.

Yes you do but I don't really have an issue with GOLD being needed for third party titles. My problem is Microsoft charging you to play their OWN games, they're charging for online, on their own games on xbox, when PC and XBOX both get the exact same mutliplayer experience. If they weren't crossplatform I wouldn't have an issue with it honestly. It's just both connecting to the exact same servers, with the exact same players, playing the exact same game both distributed on a platform owned by the exact SAME company, that bothers me.

They're both connecting to the same service, a service owned by Microsoft, except one gets it free the other does not.

I've stopped paying for PS+ partially because of this reason. Most of my friends play on PC so it wasn't hard.

4 ≈ One

I let my 1year PS+ expire last week because I enjoy single player games more. As a matter of fact, I didn't even play a multiplayer game during that time anyways lol.

FFXIV and War Thunder doesn't require PS+ so that's good.

Free Live on PC = Another nail in the coffen for the Xbone

I think it's just one of the many reasons to prefer a PC over an XBO or any future console by MS. And it's also the reason why PS4+PC is the way to go this gen.

Why would paying for live on PC not be a nail in the coffin for the console?. You have this weird view where it's PC players pay or the console dies, as if the party that originally rejected the notion has to somehow suffer in order for the other system to somehow remain relevant. Wii U and PC have free online for their games but you have to pay for it on PS4 and X1, despite paying to get "goodies" you are still paying to pay online full stop, that's still not a good thing than not paying at all for either system.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

Exclusives are the bread and butter of a console.

Take into consideration that not only are the Xbox exclusives like Gears of War is moving over to Windows, but you can play them without Live subscription. Does this answer your question?
