And turning off all the background processing defeats the purpose of a smart TV, and having a game console reduces the worth of the applications. Using a TV that has a good processor in it (like a Sony) would allow you to have your cake and eat it, too. As far as I can see, the only reason people buy LG TVs is because of how frequently they go on sale when compared to Samsung and Sony.

I disagree. Sometimes turning off some of the processing gives you a better experience.
For instance... I can't stand this "Motion" tech that TV's push, where they create/duplicate/blur frames together to give you the impression of faster and smoother motion, turning it off can reduce input lag too. It's not a "smart" feature, it annoys me.

And I agree, getting a TV with a good processor (like a Sony) is not a bad thing.

I bought the LG because it offered the best price/performance at the time for my budget, the other altenative was a Sammy with questionable components.

30 minutes from me, and a full hour from our TV technicians and their calibration tools. It still looks bad enough that bargain Hunters come in wanting to buy the 65" on sale for $900, but looks it and leave empty handed. It's hot garbage, and we've but stuck with a stock of around 20 of them since they came out.

I actually have professional tools from when I was building workstations and needed to calibrate professional 4k and 1440P/1600P monitors 10-15 years ago. - I also tend to go into the TV's hidden secret service menu and do things manually, not sure if your TV tech's go to that extent though.

I rarely see a properly calibrated panel these days anyway, people seem to like oversaturated colours and unnatural brightness it seems.

My Samsung 4k tv is supposed to upscale 1080p content to 4k. Don't know if it can get better than that.

It does. You have various degrees of quality when it comes to upscaling content.

No, most Xbone games are not 720p. Most are 1080p just like PS4. You only hear about the ones that aren't 1080p.

If you include indies then yes but most triple A are 900p or dynamic resolution ( a bit over 900p).

Found a list on IGN that lists resolutions for games for both XBO and PS4. Out of the 67 games they have listed for XBO, 36 of them are not 1080p, so over half.

Out of the 30 that are not 1080p that are also available on ps4, 4 of them are the same resolution on ps4, 26 are a higher resolution on ps4.

Gonna need to get a 4ktv soon, not for the Xbox One S though, for the Scorpio.

If you want to give some tips for me to improve my experiences with my TV I would love (on the extra services of the TV only Netflix and YT would really be necessary to be kept, and I agree that faking frames isn't much of a gain)

LG's preference to boosting their motionrate over fixing their artifacts is one of the biggest reasons I dislike their TVs... They're making the nose look smooth, ffs... But yeah, even on my Sony I turn it off. I prefer a faster response.

And people pay our team $100 extra to calibrate the image during our delivery and so I would hope they know what they're doing. They're also the ones that train people on what TVs do what and what the niches are for each brand.

Um, why wouldn't they have said this at the reveal? Seems like a pretty significant feature...

They did in a way. This is old news, so it's not really surprising unless you weren't paying attention to the original announcement.
It was a given that games would be upscaled to 4k when the console was going to have 4k blu-ray support and a scaler to suit, I'm surprised anyone even needed clarification.

COKTOE said:
I don't get it. Aren't most XBO games in 720p? So, it will upscale these games, the majority of games from 720p to 4K?

Correct.
It still won't look as good as a native 1080P image that is upscaled to 4k though, which most TV's will do on the Playstation 4's behalf anyway, the only caveat with that approach is that it can introduce increased display latency depending on Display of course.

We still have no clue what the AMD SoC is packing, and there's been no specification leaks or anything so far, but the $299 Xbox One S will directly combat Sony's new upgraded PlayStation 4K console in the 4K gaming department--at least when it comes to upscaling. Given the $299 price tag, the Xbox One S surely won't go head-to-head against the PS4 Neo's boosted specs, but it's quite interesting to see Microsoft offering 4K upscaling in its mid-tier system.

It is likely using a Polaris 11 derived GPU which has an improved video decoding and scaling block and support for HDR.

Thanks for the explanation.

Yay... what?

it's kind of stupid to even ask, what's the difference? the TV has to scale any input to fill its screen... the XB1 already upscales it's sub 1080p to 1080p, I don't even know why this is a buzz word so you'll get a 900p image upscaled to a 1080p grid then re-upscaled to 4k? that sounds horrendous... et best it will make no difference from what the XB1 does right now.
