Forums - Politics Discussion - Brexit discussion thread- UPDATE: the majority chose leave!

Should Britain stay or leave?

Stay! 185 48.43%

Leave! 197 51.57%

Total:382

I find it funny that most people react either very positively or negatively to the news. It would be nice if people take a second to ponder about the whole situation without overreacting so much. Are the stocks markets going way down right now? Hell yea but that is from the most fickle minded people in the world: investors. They would freak out about a camel farting in the Middle East. Perhaps England should legalize cannabis next so everyone can chill the fuck out.  I'm not from England so I obviously don't give a shit too much about what is partaking but if I was over there I wouldn't act like it is the end of the world.

I'm from England, and I share this sentiment. Too early to see what the outcome is. Shock horror it might turn out to be a great move.

It is a big deal. The voting was divided aswell and has serious consequences. The UK was under the "protection" of an economic giant as the EU. They are leaving it, so now they will be just another small country. The ammount of confidence in its economy is shaken. That obviously has consequences.

But this is the kind of thing that perhaps has to happen for people to be reminded that tere are consequences for bad decisions. Seems like both brits and americans have been confortable for so long that they don't understand consequence anymore until they break it.

lol ... what, the UK economy is basically socialist by American standards.

This just means England (probably no UK in the long run as Scotland is likely to bounce) will become kind of a niche worldwide player now ... what do they even make?

Range Rovers and fish and chips? They are economically not a big player globally going forward.

A little company known as British petroleum.

39% of that is owned by the US, in fact the UK owns less than half of it now I believe.

Also... what the fuck at the UK, I say the UK, wtf at England, Scotland voted 68% to remain in the EU and Northern Ireland voted majority to remain as well, I think the main thing you are going to see shattered from this isn't the EU but the UK, Scotland are most certainly going to withdraw from the UK to remain a part of the EU. We might even see a reunited Ireland at the end of this considering that as it stands right now, the Republic of Ireland has just become the only country to have a land border with the new standalone UK.

I can only hope this will turn out for the best... but sadly as of right now all this shows is that UKIP, a group who are so racist they were fodder for comedy as of 5 years ago, is now considering the voice of reason in England, that's what this is, a vote that England is now run by a racist minority, going to do shocking things for their tourism industry I bet, other than the immediate collapse of their currency, going to effect Ireland soon though, we do €1b trade with them per week, that has to take a huge hit from the fact that their currency is now worth far less than it's been in 30+ years, they just wont be able to afford our exports.

Idiots.

..... I can't even take solice and consider that maybe it was due to low turnout... 72% in England voted.... dear lord.

I disliked the Pork Friendly Cameron until this morning when the nation turned to him to see how he would lead them after this choice, pretty much just said fuck it, you guys can run the asylum now, idiots.

One of the biggest peacekeeping forces on Earth has just lost 1/6th of it's power, in terms of global protection from terrorism and attacks, this has a grave impact, people will die because of this vote, simple as that.

Maybe Merkel and others should've tried harder to convince the British that they should stay, that they will listen to their concerns. Showed them their future reform plans.

Fuck

Marcus Weber and Joseph Daul, who head up the European People's Party - the parliament's largest group - said: "There cannot be any special treatment for the United Kingdom. The British people have expressed their wish to leave the EU. Leave means leave. The times of cherry-picking are over.”

"The EU cannot be taken hostage by a Tory leadership wrangle. We need an article 50 notification now."

Boris Johnson:
"In voting to leave the EU it’s vital to stress that there’s no need for haste, and as the Prime Minister has just said nothing will change in the short term except work will begin on how to extricate this country from the supranational system. As the Prime Minister has said there is no need to invoke Article 50,"

I don't get it...

wow, just wow.

Age 25 is when people are fully matured, so I could see this being a thing. Honestly, I wish children didn't have as much pull as more experienced adults.

I was a lot more politically aware when I was 18 than currenlty.  Too busy raising kids now, too cynical to care all that much anymore. I voted again last election, skipped the one before, infant took priority.

Anyway I'm not informed anymore, don't really know what is going on in the UK, or my own country. Locally, despite voting for the party to increase health care spending, our only hospital in town is closing its ER department.
