Yes, weak specs.

Not what I mean. Aonuma said since the first trailer that because the new tech in the Wii U, BotW was possible, because before it they had to put a lot of boundaries in the world.

On top of that, Nintendo can deliver even better games using better tech. They clearly use it in more ways than making it prettier games.

you are kind of giving them the reason here xD

See above. This game would have never been possible on the Wii.

Arent you one of the people who have been very critical of Nintendo's software output, especially with Zelda? What makes you think that output will get better with significantly more powerful hardware?

If they just want to focus on content why not get out of the hardware biz, they would shift a hell of alot more content that way

Because Nintendo games are designed around Nintendos innovation. Thats why Nintendo consoles always offer different controls. Sony and Xbox focus on the same designs which leads to less innovative games while Nintendo try to break open the 4th wall. Nintendos hardware is as important as the games them selves. Without Nintendos hardware to compliment there games then you might aswell not play Nintendo games. (Hello Sega)

Hopefully NX is fast enough to easily port games from XOne. Beyond that, I don't really care how fast the NX is because Nintendo first party games already look great on the Wii U.

And it isn't enough to just make the NX as fast as XOne, because we saw how many issues the Wii U had with getting ports even though it was faster than the PS3 or X360. Nintendo needs to be working with 3rd parties and making sure that the architecture and development tools of the NX allow for super easy porting between consoles. Third parties are not going to be initially releasing games on NX because of its huge install base and so Nintendo better at least make porting as simple as pie so that 3rd parties have as little reason as possible to skip the NX.

What about the fans who want cheap hardware over expensive and the developers who want a big install base to sell their games on? Do you care about them too?

That's what the Wii U is for. Weak and cheap console with a great library. The developers who want a big install base should probably look at the 3DS or other popular consoles.

it wasnt that cheap for what it was, if it was it would have sold better.

because you cant play games like Mario Kart, Smash Bros etc on dfferent systems...right

Well of course that's what you have to say when you are the weakest hardware on the market. The question is whether you can do anything successful with the lower specs. They failed miserably with Wii U, they succeeded marvellously with Wii. So at this stage it's 50/50.

This was Nintendo's president Hiroshi Yamauchi speaking in Nintendo's 1999 annual report:

Once upon a time, Nintendo actually cared about specs and image quality. Executives like Reggie keep insisting that Nintendo isn't a company who "cares about the specs," but for nearly 20 years with Yamauchi in charge that wasn't the case at all.

It's disappointing how Kimishima doesn't want to return to those glory days.

Why not content and specs.

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

Zelda looks awesome because new tech, not old one. The vision of this game could have not been possible on a Wii and god knows since when this vision started. I don't want a piece of hardware where the Nintendo devs can't make the game they want because it's underpowered.

That's exactly what Yamauchi used to say...you can see that in the quote I linked above.

We have a brand new Nintendo president in charge but he seems hellbent on continuing Iwata's "it's not about the specs" nonsense even though that's what precisely led to the failed Wii U.

I don't understand why Nintendo would repeat the same failed strategy again instead of returning to a more Yamauchi-esque strategy like back in the glory days. It's like Nintendo is asking to go third-party.
