Forums - Sony - Andrew House: PC Gaming one of the key motivations for PS4 Neo

“I was surprised by the step of announcing something over a year ahead of time,” he said. “The dynamics of the tech industry are such that there’s a much heavier emphasis on immediate gratification than there was. A lot of that is to do with how Apple has very cleverly and elegantly managed the ‘available now’ approach. So yes, that was a slight surprise to me. We experienced this ourselves, when, in 2013, very much in line with our previous strategies, we announced a concept and a name for PlayStation 4, and everyone said ‘where’s the box? How dare you?!’ That was the point we realised, well, we hadn’t changed but the world around us had.”

What? isn't this pretty much exactly what they've done with Neo? Call it what you will, but Sony has announced Neo and at the same time have shown less than their initial PS4 announcement. it is different in that it's not a pre-launch launch announcment but rather a rumour confirmation, but no formal announcement yet. But still, but still, Sony's made some official statements about Neo and actually shown nothing.

Savvy. Basically confirmed some suspicions, but the idea to keep people from moving to PC is interesting. Doubt it'll work out like that, but whatever.

It makes sense that Microsoft would announce now when you think about it... They probably hope that announcing the more powerful system will convince some out there who were planning to buy one of the upgraded consoles to wait another year for the Scorpio.

Donno how well that will work for them, but it's not a bad idea. Of course, I was very much sold on the Xbox Slim until they announced the Scorpio, so that doesn't help them haha

That's a contradictory statement.

It's funny that you mention that, because I am in the same situation.  I expected the typical mid-generation slim models to be released and I was ready to get the XBox One Slim model, but now I am going to wait to see what Scorpio is all about.

These fuckers should focus on 1080P 60FPS instead of trying to push console games to 4k right now.

Since most gamers/families"people dont have a 4k tv i think this will happen.

1080p screens will run games at 60fps but there will be a option in game to click the 4k resolution option and it will switch to 4k30fps.

I really want to buy the neo just so i can play every game at 1080p60fps.

Noo point in buying if it woll only supports 4k30fps"ish"

If true neo and Scorpio will absolutely fail.

And if we know sony, they won't make that big of a mistake.

So he felt it was weird to announce a new iteration of XBox more than a year in advance, yet they confirmed the exicstence of PS4 Neo likely more than a year in advance?

So basically they called a time out and regroup session to outplay Scorpio?

werent you a PS3 gamer last Gen? hes exactley talking about you

Last gen I only had a PS3 for about a year and a half into the start of the gen, it died and was still expensive with the warrantly going bust meant I went with a 360 since my mates had one and it was cheaper at the time. I left last gen back in 2012.

Him talking about getting me to "stay with them" isn't really going to work because I don't have any desire to be englufed and locked behind one. I want to go where I want and build what I want.

and game what you want?

Well they are speaking directly to me. I built new PC's in 2005 & 2012.

It will be nice to experience 4K and advanced graphical techniques through a PlayStation without having to go back and dabble in PC. In addition to that, I also have the option of getting a souped up Xbox now instead of wasting time with a PC. I have never been more excited or happy with the hardware market.
