Forums - Gaming - Sony Tries to Downplay Microsoft’s Project Scorpio Hardware Power

And suddenly everyone switches viewpoints from the start of the gen and develops amnesia about how each console was marketed.

Shall I pretend to be shocked?

It's funny because a large portion of the Wii U's game library is exclusive, yet that has proven not to drive console sales to any great degree.
Are exclusives really important? Sure they are. But I think 3rd party is more important... And if Microsoft can entice PC devs over to the Xbox, then they will be onto a winner.

Right, but what happens when a console has NO exclusives? Well, I can either get a PC and a PS4 to get roughly 90% of the games released within 8th Gen, or I can get a PC and an XB1 and have a fairly redundant library. It's an even more extreme scenerio of PS3 vs XB360; most of their libraries were shared to the point that unless you just HAD to have Halo and God of War it was almost a bad decision to buy both.

The only way I can see the crossbuy thing working out in the end is if you have an XB1 and a Gaming Laptop, allowing you to take your games on the go. And even then: why not just get a laptop $300 more powerful instead?

Valid point.

With that said.. The Original Xbox didn't really have any exclusives, they were all on PC (Halo, Fable etc') and they still managed to beat Nintendo's Gamecube which had a ton more exclusives (StarFox, Mario, Zelda, Metroid etc'.)

I do own an Xbox One and Multiple PC's though, the value I find is that they are platforms that don't really compete with each other in the traditional sense... But they are platforms that augment each other.
Being able to buy a game on my Xbox One and play it in the loungeroom on a 65" screen... And then jump into bed and play that same game on my Laptop... Or having someone play on my Xbox One and I am on my high-end Desktop and playing that exact same game together... That's a big sell for me.

Most people are more interested in what their friends own, what games they are playing and rather play with them, that was one of the draw cards for the Xbox 360 and Call of Duty over the Playstation 3 for tons of people.

A $300 laptop to play Gears? Gears Gauntlet?

Most laptops have antiquated 720P twisted Nematic screens, Gears and Gauntlet are relatively light games that a moderately equipped Notebook can handle.

There's a big problem with the Scorpio that Xbox fans probably don't want to admit. It is basically the end of Xbox HW. Mark my words, the Scorpio will be mostly sold as a Windows 10 box by Holiday 2017. MS is going to try and go up against Steam and the Steam boxes, hence why all XBO games will be launching on PC. If it fails, you will be most likely saying goodbye to MS in the console biz.

And really, I can't tell who the Scorpio is for. Why spend $499 (my guess on the price) on an entire system that no longer has exclusives, when you can spend $199 and get a 5.5 Tflops GPU for your PC and play any MS Studios game you want? As for the Neo, I'm sure Sony is going to get it to 5 Tflops-5.5 Tflops. It will also be the best place to play all of the PS4's many exclusives. So, I can see that actually having a market, while Xbox's fortunes will not be turned around.

So MS just announces new powerful hardware for 18 months time and you are so sure that it won't be an Xbox branded machine and that they just suddenly decide to abandon a well known brand and start from scratch. Sorry but you must be dreaming things up in this instance. These like minded predictions have been going on for years (MS abandoning Xbox etc..). And you guys just get proven wrong every year. I do get though that some people are upset with this announcement. Hey they can easily jump on boad and get this truly powerful upgrade as well. I know ill be getting the Scorpio 😃. You can too!

I've been reading that MS is leaving console market since 2007 at least. Is funny all the "Scorpio have no exclusives" thing, because:

1. There's still games that aren't on PC and are Xbox One exclusive, are these games going to dissapear?

2. Microsoft already detailed how their planes are, all their first and second party exclusives at least are going to be on Xbox and W10 store, and maybe on steam, and there are people already buying the vanilla Xbox and Xbox Slim RIGHT NOW. Why they're not gonna buy a superior model, with a highest resolution and a better performance next year? Why???

The Xbox have little/don't have exclusives have been ALWAYS here, I've been reading that with Halo, Fable, even with Bioshock when was still an Xbox exclusive, it seems to me like some people are mad because, now that Microsoft have decided to embrace PC as their other platform and really release all the exclusives on PC, with crossbuy and crossplay at the same time than on Xbox, this narrative will be soon obsolete.

Xbox have no exclusives, and it will never have from now on, X10 have exclusives, move on from that argument please, we already know.

Not to mention that Scorpio, and all models of Xbox One can run BC compatible 360 games, and until now that is not available for PC.

The few games that are still exclusive for the Xbox One is Forza Horizon 2 (the 3 will come for the PC) Halo 5, Forza 5, and Sunset Overdrive.

Last gen the Xbox 360 really had exclusives but now the Xbox One will not have any.

Xbox won't have exclusives from now on, but will have crossbuy with PC, and crossplay, and have a great great library of 360 bc games, and maybe Scorpio will be the best console to play multis. Xbox One won't have exclusives, we know, we get it, but there's plenty of reasons to buy one, and maybe in the future will be even more.

Bolded because you're picking and choosing words and because I may have worded it vaguely. The scenerio is you can get a gaming laptop and an Xbox One, or spend that $300 you spent on an XB1 to get more out of your laptop.

Well your punctuation wasn't the best. So there is where the confusion was.

Regarding the thing he was saying. The Xbox One would sell much less because PC would become more popular while Xbox would not have anything to sell it apart from the PC, there is a much different situation than with the Wii U, The Wii U have indeed a lot of exclusives but the console don't have third party support and there are months where the console don't have a single release, If Microsoft release their games for the PC their hardware sales will drop more than their Software sales will rise.

Is amazing how many marketing and business experts are here, I wish Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo and any other game company would hire people here. I really don't know what they're thinking.

There already is Crossplay between PC and consoles on Several games you don't need to release your exclusives for the PC to get this feature, the Crossbuy only works if you have a PC and an Xbox One and by some reason you want 2 copies of the same game, this will not make someone who already have a PC purchase a Xbox One or someone with a PS4/Wii U, People  would purchase Sony or Nintendo's console and upgrade their computer later because this would  make their game library wider than it is, Why someone would purchase a console to play the same and even less games that they would be able to play on PC ?.

Xbox Scorpio is designed for Hardcore users and for 4K television market this means that Microsoft don't intend to make it popular they instead intend to make much profit from it and make the other Xbox One consoles popular.

PS4 Neo and Scorpio will be much expensive, Neo would still have the PS4's exclusives to make it sell, Xbox One would cost pretty much the same as a good PC and would not  have the games that PC have neither the freedom of the PC market.

I don't know what Nintendo is thinking because there is a long time since they made any move, but Microsoft and Sony are thinking to release a Hardcore versions of their consoles and based on the PR of Both companies we can expect the Neo and Scorpio to be very expensive and neither will become popular, Even on the USA people don't have 4K TV, both consoles will not sell well and will not have the atention of the developers to really use the Console's power.

The real point in crossplay is not really having an XBO and a PC, is keeping your library of games beyond platforms and beyond generations. The point is that you now have a XBO but then in 2 or 3 years switch to a PC, but in 8 years Scorpio 2 really seduces you, but you are going to be capable of play your games ever.

What MS is doing is increasing the value of their software, and also their platforms. When you buy a digital game to MS you will be able to play on PC or Xbox, and you will in the future, and forever. I don't know if

Maybe that will be a selling point, maybe people will ignore it, or don't get it, but this is what Microsoft propose, and I think is great.
