Japanese games > western games and always have been. 7th gen and it's dude bro slant was a fluke that I'm glad to see fading finally. Can western devs do anything besides shooters, football, and reality simulators? Tell a freaken story and generate some emotion for fucks sake.

 

Also "Heres a infinite photorealistic world and a sword and a horse have fun aimlessly wandering" (shit like Oblivion and  Skyrim) isn't a RPG.  Final Fantasy , Xenosaga, Tales, and Star Ocean are RPGs.  Can't stand dry empty western "RPGs" focused on world simulating.  Hire some writers next time.

Can Japanese devs do anything remarkable outside of the trope JRPGs?

Bold: Watch a film or read a book for that. Videogames are supposed to primarily convey emotions through interactivity, not written or visual stage play.

That's why Mario and Minecraft trascends videogame boundaries.
