Forums - Sony - God of war is ruined (opinion)

I'd be more interested in picking this up than any of the older God of Wars.

Actually I was hoping for a title like 'Son of War'.

opinions aye...

God of war was an awesome hack and slash action game, now the combat is slow, more like an action adventure, also, I can't believe that I'm going to say this but the fixed camera was better.

EDIT: alright I guess that I'm wrong cause I'm mad because now god of war is not god of war, I even think the new story looks promising and better than before. but the game's mechanics are totally different and you have to be blind to not see that. I saw the last of us with kratos. Hopefully the new zelda is not going to be a hack and slash with fixed camera cause I'm going to be mad too.

No opinion so early, but I so much thought "what the heck is this last of us with daddy Kratos ?" when I saw the trailer.
But anyway, even if the serie scaled up according to the hardware, they could never reproduce the fantastic wow factor GoW 2 gave me.

Embrace the change :)  It looks really compelling from what I saw.  Also, realize that we only got a glimpse of the action.  Also, notice that when you completed certain actions, you got your stats boosed.  I think speed will be one of those stats.  I actually like that they are blending RPG elements into the system.  Forcing your son to kill doesn't exactly win Kratos the father of the year award either lol!

I wouldn't say the game is ruined, because it seems good, but it is not the God of War game I wanted. I have the same feeling about RE7, it is looking more like Silent Hill, which I like, but I was expecting a game with the same feeling of the classic RE series.

There are other AAA games which I'm a bit disappointed too and not because they seem bad, but because of boring protagonists, which also bothered me a bit during the God of War gameplay. Horizon, Scalebound and God of War all seem very cool, but its protagonists never shut up during the gameplay videos I've seen. I hope there is an option to change this (I know there is an dialogue option in Horizon, but I want to see how that affects the game).

Looks great. It needs a subtitle though.

Looks like Dead Space in a God Of War skin to me... not that it looks bad or anything. Gotta see more to judge it, but...seems like it isn't a hack'n'slash anymore.

"The scripted sequences?"

"Stopping to admire the scenery?"

present in previous games also

"A young person hunting a deer in the snow?"

well to be specfic ellie learned to hunt on her own out necessity to keep joel alive

"The walking simulation? "

what games don't have walking?

...are you sure you've played god of war before? to me you just seem to be grasping at straws here

Oh wait, I meant GEARS of War

In all seriousness, take a close look at these three gameplay videos. You don't honestly see the God of War E3 2016 demo as some combination of the bottom two videos?

You're making it overly complicated.

The new God of War plays exactly like Ryse.

How they arrived at this design I would like to know, but the end result is mechanically just like Ryse. Same perspective over the shoulder, same camera control (and loss of control at times), same slow-mo moments, same combat moves, rolling move etc. And this is a good thing, Ryse was good and quite underrated. And God of War does it all even better.

God of War looks phenomenal.

i could pick and choose pieces from any third person action game and say that they resemble the last of us too... because the camera angle is always going to produce a certain perspective ofthe environment

God of War 1-3, plus the handheld titles, remain as killer titles in the original series. Having a related but different followup series doesn't tarnish the originals. I'm not sure I'll be a huge fan of this slower Soulsy approach to combat, but I'm glad the devs are branching out instead of being pigeonholed into one approach to one genre.

For what it's worth, I def got a TLoU vibe with the gameplay.  I see it and wanted to let you know you're not alone.  Not sure that I dislike it, but not sure that I love it either.

I really liked TLoU and really liked GOW 3.  It's like they are trying to make Kratos sentimental.  That was Kratos, right?

You.... Clearly never played God of War games. Kratos was always sentimental for his family from the first and even showed it for Pandora

Actually I played all 3 console  + ascension.  And yeah I kinda remember that a bit now.  Maybe it was just the odd bit of being tough with his son and yet compassionate. . Wonder how they will try to tie in with the other story or will they not.
