Forums - Gaming - I don't get MS's plan, announcing this early, Scrap NEO? PS5 in 2018?

I think that's a preemptive strike to steal the PS4 Neo's thunder and on top of that it's the announcement that from now on, there will be no more generations, but regular upgrades. They are trying to turn Xbox into an iPhone situation in which gamers know that there will be regular upgrades, but keep buying consoles knowing that their games portfolio will go with them, so there's no point waiting with a purchase.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

I don't get it? Why announce Scorpio now, with specs? Why after four years a ~4 to 5x upgrade?. Surely they're just leaving themselves open for Sony to come out at next years E3 and go: here's the PS5, it's been five years it's the next gen. No wonder they're not announcing, would they scrap the current NEO IDK so many questions

Huh? Sony has the NEO..  They wouldn't release the NEO then another console less then a year later..  Also..  Even if a PS5 came out next year. It won't be better spec'd then what Xbox is saying the Scorpio will be.  SO it wouldn't matter.

I just know if I was Sony i'd take advantage of the new info and not go ahead with my old plan reagardlees. Microsoft has gone super early to something that is pretty much a generational leap... why not actually have one, announce right as they're launching. Also why wouldn't it have similar, wait or better specs a year or even two later?

You seem to be under the assumption that there will still be gens. Sony is bringing Neo this or next year, why would they have a new console just one year after that?

I guess I figured that's one of the reasons consoles were still a thing, otherwise I know i'd get a PC. The advantages and disadvantages of each pretty much cancel out anyway.

That's also why I wondered if they'd scrap those NEO plans, it would be doable and might work out in the long run.

Why would they scrap Neo when it will bring them tons of profits?

As a PC gamer I can tell you that PC is not a replacement for a Sony console. Playstatrion still has too many great exclusives. And as long as Sony doesn't stop being assholes and making everything exclusive, that won't change.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

MS PC scaled console won't work for console gamers, I don't see us adapting to that model, we never asked for it. Yes it's a powerful console but asking me to upgrade every 3 years is out of the question. What are they going to do when in feb 2018 Sony announces PS5 with a traditional console model that is more powerful than the Scorpio? upgrade its CPU and ask us for another $400 1 year after Scorpio 1? That ain't happening.
Like TC said, I do t get it.

If sony does that they will kill the sales of the ps4 next year.

Good point, it could be NEO then a few years later the same as Microsoft, then it's another xbox. Upgrade like a phone every few years, still plays all the games, constant one upmanship. Doesn't sound too bad, playstation and PC it is :)

PS5 would imply that playing PS5 games on PS4 would be impossible, so that would be quite a dumb move this early in the generation.

I think the PS4KNeo will launch before the Xbox One. Probably close to the NX launch. PS5 could very well come in the end of 2018. OR whenever M$ wants to launch their next iteration.

Keep in mind that Xbox One, S, and Scorpio are all part of the One family. Similar with the PS4 and PS4KNeo. So it will still be One vs PS4 with all hardware accounted for.

I think the announcement of Scorpio was to steal some thunder from Sony's now confirmed Neo. The Scorpio hardware is meant to revive One's family sales numbers in competition to PS4 family and NX.
Will it? Hard to say as I expect it to cost more than PS4KNeo and launch later. Simply marketing most powerful isn't going to cut it since price is a huge factor in market share success.
